On November 5, after more than 900 days of arduous efforts, the Lianlin inclined shaft to Bai'ankou cross-adit main tunnel section of the Fengshuling Tunnel in Section I of the Quzhou-Lishui Railway was successfully holed through. This section is a controlling project of the entire Quzhou-Lishui Railway line, invested in by Zhejiang Communications Group, managed on behalf of the client by Coastal Railway Zhejiang Co., Ltd. of the Shanghai Railway Bureau, and constructed by the China Railway Tunnel Group. This marks a solid step forward in the construction of the Quzhou-Lishui Railway project and a phased victory for the project, laying a solid foundation for the full holing-through of the Fengshuling Tunnel.

The Quzhou-Lishui Railway is a project under the national medium- and long-term railway network plan and the Yangtze River Delta multi-level rail transit plan. It is also an important project for fully implementing the construction of Zhejiang's "Great Garden" initiative, supporting the development of the ecological tourism belt in southwestern Zhejiang, and filling the gap in the high-speed railway network in that region. The Quzhou-Lishui Railway has a total length of 160.1 kilometers and a total investment of 26.72 billion yuan, and is implemented in phases.

The Fengshuling Tunnel has a total length of 15.185 kilometers. It is being built as a new double-track line with a design speed of 200 kilometers per hour and a reserved speed of 250 kilometers per hour, with a maximum burial depth of approximately 935 meters. It passes through 14 faults, 5 densely developed joint zones, and 3 intrusive contact zones. High ground temperature and high ground stress are present, and geological disasters such as collapse, mud and water inrush, soft rock deformation, and rockbursts are prone to occur during construction, making the geological conditions extremely complex. The main tunnel section from the Lianlin inclined shaft to the Bai'ankou cross-adit holed through this time has a total length of 5,516 meters, of which the single-head excavation length in the small-chainage direction of the Bai'ankou cross-adit is 3,027 meters.

Section I of the Quzhou-Lishui Railway has won high recognition from the client unit for its excellent smooth blasting control and full-process construction management, becoming a benchmark for construction quality across the entire line and leading the entire line. In May this year, a full-process construction site observation meeting for the Fengshuling Tunnel, organized by Coastal Railway Zhejiang Co., Ltd., was held at Section I of the Quzhou-Lishui Railway of the China Railway Tunnel Group. More than 160 people from relevant units attended the on-site observation and exchange, achieving good social benefits.

The Quzhou-Lishui Railway is scheduled to open to traffic across the entire line in 2027. Traveling by train from Quzhou to Lishui will be shortened by about 40% compared with the original 1.5-hour journey, taking only 55 minutes. It will thoroughly open up a convenient transport corridor between central China and southwestern China via Quzhou and the Lishui and Wenzhou areas. Together with related railways such as the Quzhou-Jiujiang Railway and the Jinhua-Wenzhou Railway, it will form convenient sea-access channels for northern Jiangxi, southern Anhui, Hubei, and other provinces. It is of great significance for improving the road and rail network layout in southwestern Zhejiang, promoting the rapid development of Wenzhou Port, advancing the transfer of industries from the Yangtze River Delta along the line, realizing integrated economic development, promoting the leapfrog high-quality development of the 26 mountainous counties, and helping build the demonstration zone for common prosperity. In the future, agricultural and sideline products from Songyang such as huangmiguo (yellow rice cake), babacai (eight-treasure pickles), Duanwu tea, Yinhou tea, and navel oranges, as well as high-quality mineral resources such as gold, silver, molybdenum, lead, and zinc, can be transported by rail to all parts of the country. More out-of-town tourists will be able to visit scenic spots such as the Xiandu National Scenic Area, Yunhe Rice Terraces, Guyuan Huaxiang, and Longquanshan Tourist Area, continuously improving the production and living conditions of the people along the line and greatly promoting the rapid economic and social development of the areas along the route.
