"I hereby declare the main arch of the Jianhe Xixiu Bridge on Guizhou County Road X830 successfully closed!" At 3 p.m. on October 23, the main arch of the Jianhe Xixiu Bridge in Guizhou was officially closed, marking another key step forward in the bridge's construction.

The Jianhe Xixiu Bridge in Guizhou is located in Nanzhai Town, Jianhe County, Qiandongnan Prefecture. It serves as a rapid passage for nearly 20,000 residents of six nearby villages, including Zhanliu Village, across the Qingshui River Sanbanxi Reservoir area to Nanzhai Town. The bridge has a total length of 377 meters and is a reinforced concrete box arch bridge with a clear span of 288 meters. The main arch ring adopts an integral structural design and the cantilever form traveler construction technique, ranking first in the world among bridges of its type.

In 2006, construction of the Sanbanxi Hydropower Station, a key project of the national "West-East Power Transmission" program during the 10th Five-Year Plan period, was completed. The water level at Nanzhai on the Qingshui River rose from 380 meters to 475 meters after impoundment. The construction of the power station created a lake surface stretching more than 120 kilometers along the Qingshui River, promoting local economic and social development, but it also brought inconvenience to the daily travel of people on both sides of the reservoir area, with relatively high detour costs.

To break the transportation bottleneck constraining development, construction of the Jianhe Xixiu Bridge officially began on September 28, 2021. Faced with the challenging span, Guizhou Road & Bridge Group carefully assembled an experienced technical management team, overcame multiple technical difficulties, and achieved millimeter-level closure.

As one of Guizhou Province's key provincial projects in 2021, the Jianhe Xixiu Bridge directly benefits nearly 20,000 people in surrounding townships and riverside communities. It is expected to be fully completed and put into use by the end of September next year. By then, the bridge will work in synergy with the Jianhe-Liping Expressway to fully open up Jianhe County's transportation network.
