On October 23, the left tube of the Changxing Tunnel, a control project of the Wuyun-Kai Expressway, was successfully holed through. This is the first extra-long tunnel on the entire line to be completed.

The entrance end of the Changxing Tunnel is located within Yunyang County, and the exit end within Kaizhou District. It is a separated tunnel, with a left tube 3,951 meters long and a right tube 3,931 meters long. It is an extra-long tunnel with a maximum burial depth of 494 meters, and was constructed by Guizhou Highway Group.

The geological conditions inside the tunnel are complex, with the rock strata mainly consisting of silty mudstone and sandstone, classified as Grade IV and Grade V surrounding rock, making construction difficult and risky. The contractor adopted measures such as mechanization to reduce manpower and automation to replace workers to ensure safe and orderly progress of the project. At present, the right tube of the Changxing Tunnel has entered the final excavation stage, with only 82 meters remaining, and is expected to be holed through in November this year.

The Wuyun-Kai Expressway starts at the county seat of Wuxi in Chongqing Municipality, passes through Yunyang County, and ends at Kaizhou District. It has a total length of 118.62 kilometers, a design speed of 80 km/h, and four lanes in both directions. As of now, the subgrade works of the Wuyun-Kai Expressway are 88.2% complete, bridge and culvert works 74.6% complete, and tunnel works 67.6% complete. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic during the 14th Five-Year Plan period.

A relevant person in charge of Chongqing Expressway Wuyun-Kai Company stated that after the Wuyun-Kai Expressway is completed, the drive from Wuxi to Kaizhou will be shortened to about 1.5 hours. It will also connect scenic spots such as Hongchiba, Xuebaoshan, and Hanfeng Lake, boosting the development of tourism resources along the route.
