Construction of Pile-Slab Soil-Free Subgrade on Anluo Expressway Completed
At 11:16 a.m. on October 18, as the last bridge deck slab was steadily lowered into place, the pile-slab soil-free subgrade bridge deck project on the Anluo Expressway (Luoshan to the Henan-Hubei provincial border section), constructed by the Second Company of China Railway No. 10 Engineering Group, was successfully completed, marking the successful completion of Henan Province's first pile-slab soil-free subgrade construction.

The Anluo Expressway (Luoshan to the Henan-Hubei provincial border section) project has a total route length of approximately 43.974 km, of which the pile-slab soil-free subgrade is 3.106 km long, with a net bridge deck width of 11.75 m, 82,444 m of precast pipe piles in 8,352 piles, and a total of 2,071 bridge deck slabs.
Compared with conventional subgrade, the pile-slab structure subgrade adopted by the project offers greater stiffness and less settlement, and does not require the slope width necessary in conventional subgrade construction, greatly improving land utilization and effectively solving problems faced in expressway construction in plain areas, such as the unavailability of soil, difficulty in obtaining borrow soil, and difficulty in treating soft foundations in ponds and paddy fields. The application of the new pile-slab soil-free subgrade construction technology is the first of its kind in expressway construction in Henan Province. The successful completion of the pile-slab soil-free subgrade on the Anluo Expressway (Luoshan to the Henan-Hubei provincial border section) marks a new breakthrough for the province's expressway construction in practicing the concept of green development and conserving land resources.
It is reported that the construction of the Anluo Expressway (Luoshan to the Henan-Hubei provincial border section) will accelerate the full connection of the entire Anluo Expressway corridor, form a new north-south longitudinal channel within Henan Province, ease traffic pressure on the Beijing-Hong Kong-Macao Expressway, and improve the road network structure in the Dabie Mountain area. The project is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2024.
