On October 12, the left tube of the Mingyueshan Tunnel, a controlling works of the Kaijiang-Liangping Expressway (Sichuan section) project (Kaijiang to Liangping Expressway, referred to as "Kailiang Expressway"), was successfully holed through. As the only tunnel on the entire line, its right tube had already been holed through earlier, laying the foundation for the line to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of this year.

The Mingyueshan Tunnel is located within Xinning Town, Kaijiang County, Dazhou City, and is arranged as separated twin tubes, with a left tube length of 1,899 meters and a right tube length of 1,873 meters, and a maximum burial depth of 187 meters. According to reports, the main adverse geological condition of the tunnel is an ancient landslide body in the portal section, and there is biased pressure in the portal section. The surrounding rock in the entrance section of the left tube is mainly clay in lithology; the clay softens upon contact with water, resulting in extremely poor self-stabilization capacity of the surrounding rock, and during excavation, conditions such as large deformation from soft rock collapse, block falling and sliding collapse at the tunnel face are highly prone to occur.

To overcome numerous difficulties, the construction unit adopted a combination of the TSP method for advanced geological prediction of the tunnel, short-range prediction by geological radar, advanced drilling and geological sketching to grasp the geological conditions ahead of the tunnel face, and used monitoring and measurement to grasp the deformation of the surrounding rock. In addition, based on the results of advanced geological prediction and monitoring and measurement, the excavation method and support parameters were dynamically adjusted in a timely manner, successfully achieving holing-through of both tubes with "zero safety accidents."

The Kailiang Expressway starts near Qiaoting Village, Kaijiang County, Dazhou City, and ends in Liangping District, Chongqing Municipality, intersecting with the Wanda section of the G5012 Enguang Expressway. The route has a total length of 30.367 km, with an estimated investment of 3.95852 billion yuan, and adopts the standard of a two-way four-lane expressway with a design speed of 100 km/h. The project is constructed under the BOT model, started in 2020, and is planned to be completed and opened to traffic by the end of 2023. At present, both the subgrade and bridge and culvert works are more than 95% complete, and pavement, traffic safety, electromechanical and building construction are being advanced simultaneously.

As one of the first five expressways planned for the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle, once the project is completed, the Kailiang Expressway will become another important transportation artery between Chengdu and Chongqing, playing a very important role in promoting the construction of the Wanda-Kai Sichuan-Chongqing Coordinated Development Demonstration Zone and injecting strong momentum into the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing Twin-City Economic Circle.
