Recently, XCMG Energy's XUR5000 raise boring machine successfully completed its work, achieving an average daily reaming rate of 15 m and a single-day peak reaming rate of 30 m, setting multiple industry records and completing the deep inclined shaft construction task at the Zhejiang Tiantai Pumped Storage Power Station with high quality and efficiency.

As a major project planned during Zhejiang Province's 14th Five-Year Plan period, the Zhejiang Tiantai Pumped Storage Power Station has attracted widespread attention in China's pumped storage hydropower sector. Among its works, No. 1 deep inclined shaft has a depth of 480 m, an inclination angle of 57°, and a reaming diameter of 2.5 m, making it currently the deepest and largest-diameter diversion shaft project in China. Due to its complex strata and extremely high construction difficulty, it has deterred many raise boring contractors in the industry.

After detailed investigation and research of domestic raise boring machine manufacturers, the contractor ultimately selected XCMG Energy's XUR5000 raise boring machine as the main equipment for the project.

The XCMG XUR5000 self-propelled raise boring machine is a top-drive shaft excavation machine with a maximum drilling depth of 600 m and a maximum hole diameter of 5 m, widely used in mining, water conservancy and hydropower, tunnel transportation and other fields. It adopts a crawler chassis for flexible movement; an adaptive drilling system to ensure efficient construction in harsh strata; a fault diagnosis system that can quickly identify and solve problems; and an automatic rod loading and unloading system that fundamentally eliminates safety hazards from manual operation.

During construction, XCMG Energy personnel worked with the contractor to overcome numerous difficulties such as water inrush and interlayers, ultimately completing the task with high quality and efficiency. This has also pushed the construction level of China's pumped storage power stations to a new world height.
