Introduction

After a four-year hiatus, the 16th China (Beijing) International Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines and Mining Machines Exhibition & Seminar (BICES 2023) grandly opened in Beijing on September 20.

Since the first Beijing exhibition in 1989, XCMG has participated for 16 consecutive editions. At this exhibition, under the theme "DRIVING DIGITAL, GOING GREEN," XCMG Group presented 28 star products across 8 major sectors, intelligent technological achievements, and complete set solutions, showcasing to the world the "steel wisdom" of a great power's heavy equipment.

XCMG Group's operating revenue has exceeded 100 billion yuan for three consecutive years, successfully completing mixed-ownership reform and the overall listing of its construction machinery segment. In the first half of 2023, the listed company XCMG Machinery ranked first in the domestic industry in operating revenue, net profit attributable to parent company, and return on net assets. Currently, 15 of XCMG's main machine products hold the No. 1 market share in the domestic industry, with products exported to more than 190 countries and regions, covering over 95% of the Belt and Road routes.

Just one day earlier, at the 2023 China Construction Machinery Technology Innovation Summit and Parts Prime Suppliers 500 Release Conference, XCMG held firmly to third place in the global industry, becoming the only Chinese manufacturer to maintain a global top-three position for several consecutive years.

Admittedly, after three years of the pandemic, the external environment has become complex and volatile, and the industry situation has grown more severe. Under such circumstances, why has XCMG's performance increased rather than declined, rising against the trend? What seems incredible is in fact traceable.

An 80-Year Journey Toward the Summit

XCMG's origins trace back to the Huaxing Iron Works of 1943, marking eighty years of arduous yet glorious struggle. In 2017, when General Secretary Xi Jinping inspected XCMG, he first put forward the important thesis that "state-owned enterprises are the 'pillars' of the socialist economy with Chinese characteristics," encouraging us to "make new contributions to the country's 'Two Centenary' goals." At this year's Two Sessions, General Secretary Xi Jinping fully affirmed that XCMG's construction machinery "has reached world-leading levels," and instructed us to "improve further, move toward the mid-to-high end, and reflect high-quality development here."

At the opening ceremony, XCMG released its 80th anniversary theme video and commemorative logo to the world. Lu Chuan, President and Deputy Party Secretary of XCMG Machinery, presented 80th anniversary commemorative medals to outstanding dealers and customers. Representatives of outstanding dealers and customers shared their stories of growing together with XCMG.

In his opening speech, Lu Chuan pointed out, "As the founder, pioneer, and leader of China's construction machinery industry, XCMG has always stood together with customers and industry chain allies through thick and thin. Here, on behalf of XCMG, I express our most sincere gratitude for your care, support, and assistance over the years!"

At the event, XCMG signed strategic cooperation agreements with China Anneng, Sinopec Fourth Construction, Beijing Shenda Group, Jinchengxin Mining, and Beijing Hengshi, and signed a hundred-unit order agreement with Linfen Shihou Tianyuan, while also completing order delivery with China Railway Tenth Bureau.

The Path of High-End and Internationalization

Heroes are made by the times; only by conforming to industry development trends can one go far and steady.

At the exhibition, XCMG's series of "Steel Mantis" walking excavators were fully upgraded, among which the 10-ton modular walking excavator and the 20-ton walking excavator attracted particular attention. Their debut marks XCMG's formation of a serialized walking excavator system covering 8-ton, 10-ton, 11-ton, 12-ton, and 20-ton classes, providing more solutions for emergency rescue and special mountain operations!

Next, XCMG's complete set of high-mobility rescue and support equipment made a stunning debut: Asia's only all-terrain rubber-track bulldozer with a maximum speed of 58 kilometers per hour; a high-speed excavator with the industry's first mechanical steering technology and stable travel speed above 80 kilometers per hour—truly outstanding examples of contemporary Chinese emergency rescue equipment.

In recent years, XCMG has accelerated the "five-ization" transformation and upgrading of its industry, achieving blossoming across multiple industry sectors. The 2023 first-half performance report released in August shows that XCMG's revenue from strategic emerging industries such as aerial work machinery, mining machinery, sanitation machinery, port machinery, and agricultural machinery reached 12.3 billion yuan, up 44.5% year on year, accounting for 23.99% of operating revenue, an increase of 8.18 percentage points year on year.

XCMG is the earliest Chinese construction machinery brand to go global. Over more than 30 years of internationalization, its annual export total and overseas revenue have consistently ranked first in the Chinese industry. Especially over the past decade, XCMG has actively responded to the Belt and Road Initiative, maintaining the No. 1 export market share in major countries, with more than 100 major cooperative projects and actual investment exceeding 3 billion yuan. Belt and Road countries have truly become XCMG's core markets.

The Path of Green and Low-Carbon Development

Against the national backdrop of achieving "carbon peaking and carbon neutrality," XCMG has deep thinking and a clear strategy.

As early as a year and a half ago, XCMG officially released the first dual-carbon planning outline in China's construction machinery industry—the "XCMG Carbon Peaking and Carbon Neutrality Action Plan Outline." XCMG has done exactly what it said.

At this BICES exhibition, XCMG launched 15 new energy main machine products, accounting for about 60% of the total exhibits. Among them, the world's largest-tonnage green-plate-eligible hybrid all-terrain crane XCA300L8-HEV became an instant hit, with its range-extender mode achieving efficient oil-to-electricity conversion and saving 80,000-100,000 yuan in operating costs annually.

All-weather, heavy-duty, and long-endurance—XCMG's all-new Peacock series large-tonnage high-voltage lithium battery forklifts made a stunning "tail-feather display"; the 105-ton total weight electric mining truck XGE105 sails on heavy loads; the world's first pure electric unmanned three-axle rigid mining truck XDR80TE-AT "overtakes on the curve"; the XC968-EV pure electric loader is approved for Europe; the XE215E pure electric excavator provides a full-scenario "zero-carbon solution"; the HB62VH plug-in hybrid pump truck and G4802BIIVE pure electric mixer truck save fuel and reduce costs; and the three major categories of aerial work platforms—straight-arm, articulated-arm, and scissor-type—are all equipped with ternary lithium batteries and flooded lead-acid batteries, creating complete new energy elevated work product solutions for global users.

At the exhibition, XCMG's new energy main machine products blossomed in full glory and splendor, yet this is only a microcosm of XCMG's green development strategic actions. XCMG Machinery's 2023 half-year performance report shows that XCMG's new energy product revenue grew 174.9% year on year.

Green design, green products, green manufacturing, and green construction provide an inexhaustible source of vitality for XCMG's high-quality development path. It is therefore no surprise that XCMG has achieved "China Speed" in recent years.

The Path of Intelligent and Service-Oriented Development

The report of the 20th National Congress of the Party requires promoting the deep integration of the digital economy and the real economy. At this exhibition, XCMG's Digital Intelligent Construction Cluster 2023 was grandly released. As a culmination of cutting-edge technologies in intelligent, digital, and automated fields, it covers a series of complete solutions ranging from intelligent construction equipment and digital monitoring to cluster collaborative operations, showcasing to the world the latest achievements of China's intelligent manufacturing and technological innovation.

In addition, the exhibition featured a complete set of lifting solution sand tables, an online product showroom presented in VR, and digital displays of more than 50 best-selling machines with human-machine interaction, comprehensively demonstrating the profound heritage of 80 years of great power heavy equipment.

With attentive service and platform empowerment, the exhibition also released the XCMG Easy Rental platform and showcased the Hanyun Industrial Internet, fully highlighting XCMG's intelligent technological achievements and complete set solutions.

Currently, XCMG's "Project No. 1" of intelligent transformation and digital conversion, led by the Chairman, has been fully launched and second-phase tasks have been deployed. A platform-based, digital, and intelligent XCMG is already on the way.
