Linyi Yellow River Bridge Project Makes a "Stunning" Appearance

On September 15, the Shanxi Provincial Highway Construction Safe Century Quality Engineering On-site Demonstration and Exchange Meeting was held in Yuncheng. That day, the Linyi Yellow River Bridge made a "stunning" appearance as an on-site observation project, and attending representatives exchanged views on advanced bridge construction technologies, construction techniques, and other aspects.

The construction of Safe Century Quality Engineering is an important measure for comprehensively implementing the strategic deployments of the Party Central Committee on building a quality nation and a transportation powerhouse, as well as the work arrangements of the Provincial Party Committee and Provincial Government to further accelerate transformation and development. Guo Bingfu, Party Secretary and Director of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Transportation, stated in his speech that scientific and technological innovation should be intensified, the comprehensive integration of new technologies with transportation construction should be promoted, and the creation of Safe Century Quality Engineering should be improved in quality and efficiency.

At the meeting, the three Shanxi construction units included in the first batch of Safe Century Quality Engineering demonstration projects by the Ministry of Transport shared their experience. Relevant responsible persons from Shanxi Road & Bridge, Shanxi Transportation Holdings, and China Railway Construction Corporation made statements on improving project quality and safety.

On the afternoon of the same day, attending representatives conducted on-site observation of the quality engineering creation results of the Linyi Yellow River Bridge and its approach project, and exchanged views on advanced bridge construction technologies, construction techniques, and the application of new technologies.

By the banks of Xunyang and over the Yellow River, the Linyi Yellow River Bridge, under intensive construction, spans east and west and will soon provide more convenient services for cultural exchange between Shaanxi and Shanxi and for residents' travel.

The Linyi Yellow River Bridge and approach project has a total route length of 20.91 kilometers and is a controlling node project of the national expressway G3511 of the Hebao Line. The project starts in Wanrong County, Yuncheng City, Shanxi Province, passes through Linyi County, and ends in Heyang County, Weinan City, Shaanxi Province. The project is an important component of the province's "Three Vertical, Twelve Horizontal, Twelve Ring" network, and is also the Yellow River highway bridge with the largest investment scale and the longest bridge length among the 12 highway bridges connecting Shanxi and Shaanxi provinces.

Song Yuejian, Party Secretary and Chairman of China Railway Construction Investment Shanxi Expressway Co., Ltd., introduced that the Linyi Yellow River Bridge crosses two national nature reserves and one provincial nature reserve with continuous 100-meter-high piers, and features technical characteristics such as ultra-long pile foundations, deep-water foundation pits, high piers, large spans, and long-unit incremental launching. Environmental protection requirements are extremely high, and construction is difficult. It has set four "world records," including the amount of weathering steel used on a single bridge and the continuous incremental launching length.

It is understood that the project is invested and constructed by China Railway Construction Investment Group Co., Ltd., participated in by China Railway Construction Bridge Engineering Bureau Group Co., Ltd., and specifically implemented, invested in, constructed, and operated by China Railway Construction Investment Shanxi Expressway Co., Ltd. After completion, the project will improve the convenient, intelligent, green, safe, and interconnected comprehensive transportation network for leaving the province in southern Shanxi, shorten the travel time from Yuncheng, Shanxi to Tongchuan, Shaanxi from 4 hours to 2.5 hours, and further connect vertically and horizontally with the mother river, the wetlands of the reserve, the tourism highway along the Yellow River, and the historical and cultural relics along the banks, helping to deeply implement the major national strategy of ecological protection and high-quality development of the Yellow River Basin.

As of now, the project is intensively carrying out incremental launching construction. The steel box girder incremental launching on the Shanxi side has exceeded 1,569 meters, and that on the Shaanxi side has exceeded 1,538 meters.

"The creation of Safe Century Quality Engineering is an important lever for comprehensively improving the quality and safety level of highway and waterway engineering in the province," said Zhao Jingpeng, Deputy Director of the Construction Management Division of the Shanxi Provincial Department of Transportation. In recent years, the Provincial Department of Transportation has continued to carry out project quality improvement as a regular and long-term task.

At present, the province has achieved remarkable results in creating Safe Century Quality Engineering for highways and waterways. The Yunbao Yellow River Bridge, the Changhan Expressway reconstruction and expansion, the Changlin Expressway, and the Yangmang Expressway won the industry's highest award, the "Li Chun Award." In the first half of this year, the quality sampling pass rate of highway projects under construction in the province reached 97.4%, and the project construction quality and intrinsic safety level have been significantly improved.
