On September 12, at the KIM Industrial Park in Indonesia. Sany Group's Indonesian "Lighthouse Factory" has been upgraded again — the Phase II project of the Sany Indonesia Industrial Park officially held its groundbreaking ceremony.

Why choose Indonesia? Where do the strength and charm of "Hunan Intelligent Manufacturing" lie?

The Sany Indonesia "Lighthouse Factory" is the first "smart factory" Sany Group has deployed overseas. Phase I broke ground in March 2020 with a total investment of 200 million yuan, mainly producing 13-ton to 55-ton excavators for the Southeast Asian market, with an annual capacity of 3,000 units.

Company executives explained that Indonesia was chosen as the "best choice" after careful consideration.

First, Indonesia has abundant economic development potential, ranks fourth in population, is rich in mineral resources, and has strong demand for construction machinery and equipment.

Second, as the center of ASEAN, building a "Lighthouse Factory" here can cover the entire ASEAN region as well as Australia and New Zealand, better advancing Sany Group's globalization strategy and contributing to high-quality Belt and Road construction.

In addition, the construction of the "Lighthouse Factory" brings advanced manufacturing process technologies to Indonesia, accelerates local talent development, and elevates the level of industrial, innovation, and value chains.

On August 15, 2022, the first "Made in Indonesia" excavator rolled off the line at the "Lighthouse Factory," achieving "Sany speed" of less than 30 days from equipment installation and commissioning to product rollout.

Executives explained that this factory integrates the core achievements of several of Sany's domestic "Lighthouse Factories" and is built to Industry 4.0 standards. Compared with other overseas bases, the Sany Indonesia "Lighthouse Factory" — from design and planning to plant construction and equipment commissioning, and then to overall operations management — was entirely led by Sany's domestic team.

The Phase I factory has about 200 pieces of various intelligent equipment and only about 100 workers, achieving an annual output value of over 2 billion yuan and a per capita annual output value of about 20 million yuan, making it one of the overseas factories with the highest per capita output value and the highest level of intelligence in China's construction machinery industry.

Thanks to the early deployment of the "Lighthouse Factory," Sany has rapidly grown into Indonesia's largest construction machinery enterprise. To date, Sany's product sales in Indonesia have exceeded 20 billion RMB, with more than 24,000 units of equipment in service, having participated in almost all of Indonesia's major engineering projects and created more than 2,000 local jobs.

With Phase I progressing smoothly, there is naturally greater confidence in investing in Phase II.

The editor has learned that the Phase II project of the Sany Indonesia Industrial Park, which has now broken ground, involves a total investment of 150 million USD, covers an area of 105 mu, and will mainly produce excavators, wide-body trucks, and other equipment, with an output value of 5 billion RMB and more than 2,000 new jobs.

Compared with Phase I, Phase II of the Sany Indonesia Industrial Park is not only larger in scale but also "smarter," mainly reflected in the following aspects —

Through an automated material delivery system and relying on digital production management, automatic material calling for production orders and unmanned vehicle delivery are realized.

Through a digital twin system, a digital factory is established in the cloud to collect data in real time and interconnect data with Sany's global production control center and Rootcloud's "RootCloud" platform, matching the strongest computing power for each process, each model, and even each cutting tool.

Through a process simulation system, production processes are simulated to confirm process routes and guide production, realizing the overseas systematic export of intelligent manufacturing in the construction machinery industry.

Through an intelligent manufacturing operations management system, more than ten digital systems — including product lifecycle management, product supply specifications, and supply chain management — are integrated and combined with automated production equipment to improve the level of intelligent production.

Sany stated that it will apply its domestic "Empowering Ten Thousand Enterprises with Intelligence" experience to the Phase II project of the Sany Indonesia Industrial Park, build Indonesia's first "smart factory," create an international operating platform rooted in Indonesia, oriented toward Southeast Asia, and radiating globally, and set a benchmark for Chinese enterprises "going global" and a model of win-win bilateral cooperation.
