On August 23, the left tube of the Huangshan Qi Great Wall Tunnel on the G204 Widening and Reconstruction Project (Yangheya–Jiangjiawazi) in Qingdao, Shandong Province, was holed through, marking a breakthrough in the project's construction.

National Highway G204 is a Class I highway with a design speed of 80 km/h. The Huangshan Qi Great Wall Tunnel is located in the Huangshan section of G204 in the West Coast New Area of Qingdao, 700 meters south of Shihuiyao East Village, Wangtai Subdistrict, between Huangshan and Baowushan, passing beneath the Qi Great Wall ruins, with the Qingdao–Yancheng Railway to its east. The tunnel is designed as a separated twin-tube, four-lane, one-way-per-tube structure in the form of a separated mountain tunnel, with a total length of 2,957 meters. To protect the ancient Qi Great Wall ruins and for environmental reasons, the G204 section crossing the Huangshan Pass adopts a "tunnel-instead-of-road" design approach, highlighting the concepts of ecological priority and green environmental protection.
During construction, the contractor organized the design scientifically, allocated resources rationally, optimized the construction plan, carried out technical research, seized favorable opportunities for scientific scheduling and thorough arrangements, and adopted technical methods such as advanced geological forecasting and monitoring and measurement for dynamic adjustment of excavation. On the premise of ensuring safety and quality, the smooth holing-through of the left tube of the Huangshan Qi Great Wall Tunnel was achieved, laying a solid foundation for the holing-through of the entire tunnel.
It is reported that the Qi Great Wall Tunnel project is a key infrastructure project in Shandong Province. Upon completion, it will become the first highway tunnel on the 216-kilometer section of National Highway G204 within Qingdao. By then, the Huangshan Pass section of G204 will pass through the tunnel, greatly improving traffic efficiency, driving experience and travel costs, and creating a safe, smooth and environmentally friendly major corridor running north-south through the West Coast New Area of Qingdao.
At the same time, through the radiating and driving role of National Highway G204, the West Coast New Area can connect northward to Jiaozhou Qingdao International Airport and link up with Yantai, favorably promoting the integrated development of the Jiaodong Economic Circle. Southward, it can reach Jiangsu and Shanghai via Rizhao, creating a strong engine for the high-quality opening-up and development of the West Coast New Area, achieving interconnectivity of transportation infrastructure over a wider area, and promoting the full integration of the Jiaodong Economic Circle into major national regional strategies.
