On July 17, the super-large-diameter shield tunneling machine "Hero" for high-speed rail tunnels, jointly built by CRCHI (China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Corporation) and China Railway 14th Bureau Group, rolled off the production line in Changsha, Hunan. The "Hero" has an overall length of about 134 meters and an excavation diameter of 14.8 meters. It is currently the shield machine used for the construction of the highest-speed (350 km/h) and largest-diameter high-speed rail tunnel in China, and it is also the first super-large-diameter tunnel shield machine ever adopted in Jiangxi Province.

The "Hero" will be applied to the Tianxiang Avenue shield tunnel project. This tunnel is a controlling project of the Changjiu High-Speed Railway, characterized by a large excavation cross-section, a long tunnel section, and numerous geological risks. In response to the complex and variable geological conditions and engineering characteristics of the project, the "Hero" adopts multiple innovative technologies, providing crucial equipment assurance for shield tunneling and contributing to the high-quality construction of the Changjiu High-Speed Railway.

The Changjiu High-Speed Railway is an important component of the Beijing-Hong Kong Corridor, one of the "Eight Vertical and Eight Horizontal" main high-speed rail corridors in the national Medium- and Long-Term Railway Network Plan. It is a key transportation infrastructure for the interconnection of the urban agglomerations in the middle reaches of the Yangtze River and around Poyang Lake. It is of great significance for Jiangxi Province in building an integrated comprehensive transportation system for the Changjiu integration, further integrating into the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, supporting the implementation of the Yangtze River Economic Belt development strategy, and promoting high-quality economic and social development along the route.
