The Honghe Grand Bridge is located at K109+280 of the Eshan-Shiping-Honghe Expressway in Honghe Autonomous Prefecture, Yunnan Province. It sits in a U-shaped canyon with low-lying terrain in the middle and was built to cross the Honghe River. The strata are complex, with a mixture of conglomerate, sandstone, and dolomite. The bridge deck is 28.1 meters wide and the bridge is 892.5 meters long. It is the first three-tower low-tower cable-stayed bridge in Yunnan Province and features a tight construction schedule, many slightly weathered sandstone interlayers with inclined rock surfaces, difficult control of construction verticality, and high pile foundation accuracy requirements. The abutments on both banks of the bridge are gravity-type abutments. The main piers of the substructure use thin-walled hollow piers, and the transition sections use constant-section rectangular piers. The maximum pier height is 160 meters, and the main tower is 44 meters high. The bridge is one of the controlling projects of the "three bridges and two tunnels" of the Eshan-Shiping-Honghe Expressway.

Whether the pile foundation can be completed with high quality is related to the safety of the entire bridge and even the entire expressway project. The three main piers have a total of 75 piles, with a pile diameter of 2.8 meters and a pile depth of 85 to 88 meters.
