The largest deep foundation pit project in China

The total foundation pit area of the Pudong International Airport Phase IV Expansion Project is approximately 340,000 m³, with a general excavation depth of about 18.6–30.7 m and a maximum excavation depth of about 36.7 m, making it the largest deep foundation pit project in China at present.

In the foundation pit project, a series of green, energy-saving and environmentally friendly new technologies are comprehensively adopted, including diaphragm walls combined with super-deep equal-thickness cement-soil mixing wall construction, suspended composite support, ultra-high-pressure jet grouting, and the DMP method.

Before excavation of the foundation pit in the rail transit area of the proposed site, the shallow part of the site needs to be treated by soil removal and slope cutting. The soil removal platform in the site is about 10 m wide, and the 3 m height difference between the soil removal platform and Xinfeiao Road on the west side is treated by the DMP (low-disturbance four-axis cement mixing pile) process. The total construction volume of the mixing piles is about 24,500 ㎡, with a pile diameter of 850@650 mm, a pile depth of 29.5 m, and a cement mixing ratio of 13%. After the low-disturbance mixing piles are formed, H700×300 mm steel sections with a length of 15 m are inserted into the piles, totaling 1,410 pieces.

The project requires that the mixing piles cause little disturbance to the surrounding soil, with verticality not greater than 1/250, wall position deviation not greater than 50 mm, wall thickness deviation not greater than 20 mm, and no negative deviation allowed in wall depth or wall thickness.

The narrow site and complex stratum conditions are a major difficulty of the project. The project manager said: because the site is narrow and the schedule is very tight, there is a lot of cross-construction, and the stratum conditions are complex; on both sides there are rainwater pipes, sewage pipes and gas pipelines, all of which need protection, placing extremely high demands on construction technology and equipment performance.

With advantages such as intelligent digital construction technology, low disturbance to the surrounding environment, and high pile quality, Shangong Machinery's DMP-I digital low-disturbance mixing pile machine continued to perform strongly and impressively, achieving a construction efficiency of 12 piles in 12 hours, about 550 m³, effectively ensuring the project's construction progress.

The DMP-I digital low-disturbance mixing pile machine can effectively reduce disturbance to the surrounding soil by controlling the air pressure and grouting pressure while being equipped with special-shaped drill rods and differential-speed blades; the drill rod is equipped with an in-ground pressure sensor and a verticality sensor, enabling real-time monitoring of in-ground pressure and verticality during construction for higher pile quality.

The DMP-I digital low-disturbance mixing pile machine has an intelligent digital construction control system that makes the construction process quality controllable and also greatly improves construction convenience.

The digital construction control system collects and displays parameters including grouting pressure, slurry flow rate, air pressure, in-ground pressure, pile-forming depth, pile-forming speed, and pile-forming verticality; it can generate construction records containing parameters such as pile length, construction time, in-ground pressure, cement consumption, and pile-forming verticality; at the same time, it can upload construction parameters to the central control center to achieve real-time monitoring of the construction process.
