"Since the 14th Five-Year Plan period, Chinese construction machinery enterprises have made breakthrough progress in internationalization," noted Su Zimeng, President of the China Construction Machinery Association. He pointed out that industry enterprises have continuously intensified efforts to develop international markets, further enhanced their international competitive advantages and the quality of globalized services, built a more robust global marketing and service network, and further strengthened the development of overseas training, logistics networks, and spare parts supply systems. The share of overseas business in overall operations, international market share, and reputation of Chinese construction machinery have risen steadily. In the long term, the industry's development will show an overall stable and positive trend, and exports are expected to remain at a relatively high level in the future.
Data shows that in the first four months of this year, China's construction machinery import and export volume reached US$17.112 billion, up 27% year on year. Among this, exports amounted to US$16.268 billion, up 30.5% year on year. Exports of high-tech products showed obvious growth momentum, with exports of crawler excavators, loaders, road rollers, bulldozers, and electric forklifts all showing rapid growth.
The high-quality development of the construction machinery industry is also reflected in the further improvement of independent innovation capability. Su Zimeng recently stated in Beijing at the press conference and exhibitor preparatory meeting for the 16th China (Beijing) International Construction Machinery, Building Material Machines and Mining Machines Exhibition & Seminar (BICES 2023) that industry enterprises continue to increase R&D investment. Through strengthened cooperation among industry, academia, research, and application, a number of new high-tech products have been industrialized, a batch of technical equipment adapted to new scenarios and new construction methods has been put into use, multiple intelligent construction technologies and equipment have been experimentally applied, and the development and application of a number of major technical equipment have achieved new results. At the same time, industry enterprises have focused on shortcomings, gradually achieving independent controllability and broader practical application of some key components through technological upgrading. The industrial foundation capacity and the modernization level of the industrial chain have been significantly improved, and the industry's high-end, intelligent, and green development highlights are numerous.
BICES is a grand exhibition event for the global construction machinery industry. According to Wu Peiguo, Secretary-General of the China Construction Machinery Association and Chairman of Beijing Tianshi Huagong International Exhibition Co., Ltd., as of now, BICES 2023, to be held in late September, has received registrations from more than 1,000 exhibitors. These include global top 50 construction machinery enterprises such as LiuGong, Sany, LGMG, Caterpillar, and Zoomlion, as well as upstream and downstream enterprises in the industrial chain and supply chain such as Han's Laser, Cummins, and Isuzu. The total exhibition area is expected to exceed 150,000 square meters. This exhibition has planned a total of 15 thematic exhibition zones. In addition to 11 major zones including the major technical equipment and high-end equipment exhibition zone and the intelligentization zone, new zones will be added for "dual carbon," specialized, refined, distinctive and innovative (SRDI) enterprises, and high-end services. A special zone titled "Forging Ahead in the New Era, Creating New Glory — Construction Machinery Industry Achievement Exhibition Zone" has also been set up. A batch of high-end, intelligent, and green construction machinery products and technologies, as well as a batch of the latest service solutions, will be showcased in a concentrated manner. Nearly 100 conferences and activities will be held concurrently, along with a series of selection and evaluation activities and a creative design competition, jointly promoting the high-quality development of the global construction machinery industry.
Su Zimeng called on construction machinery enterprises to seize the opportunities of the new round of technological revolution, industrial transformation, and green and low-carbon development, cultivate and strengthen new drivers of industry development, strive to build independent, controllable, safe, and reliable industrial and supply chains, effectively enhance self-development capacity and international competitiveness, make efforts to meet the needs of various markets, and push the high-quality development of the construction machinery industry to a new level.
