Recently, the Foundation Laboratory of the State Key Laboratory of Building Safety and Environment successfully completed the indoor model test tasks for the research project "Experimental Study on Lateral Pressure of Pre-mixed Fluidized Stabilized Soil" undertaken by CABR Foundation Engineering Co., Ltd.

Pre-mixed fluidized stabilized soil is an engineering material that, according to project requirements and geotechnical characteristics, uses excavated spoil, construction solid waste, and reduced soil, to which a stabilizer and water are added and mixed into a pumpable, flowable mixture; after pouring and curing, it hardens to form an engineering material with a certain strength. The stabilization mechanism of pre-mixed fluidized stabilized soil is as follows: a small amount of inorganic cementitious binder bonds the soil particles, and chemical methods (soil stabilization admixtures) are used to activate the activity of the soil particles, promote stabilization reactions, and enhance and improve the properties of the hardened soil body.

Test mold preparation and unconfined compressive strength test

Pre-mixed fluidized stabilized soil possesses some characteristics of concrete, but the two are materials of different natures, and their lateral pressure development patterns also differ. Considering the damage to surrounding buildings caused by excessive lateral pressure of pre-mixed fluidized stabilized soil during backfilling, research is needed on the interaction between pre-mixed fluidized stabilized soil and building structures. The main tests of the project consist of three parts, namely the unconfined compressive strength test, the indoor model box test, and the model trench simulated field test. The model test portion of the project has been fully and successfully completed; next, the research team will conduct analysis based on the collected test data.

Indoor model box test

The current widespread application of "pre-mixed fluidized stabilized soil" using construction solid waste as raw material reduces the carbon emissions of civil engineering materials, aligns with the national "dual carbon" strategic goals, and contributes to the realization of green transformation and development.
