On June 5, the "Qianjin No. 8" shield machine broke through the surface, successfully completing the right line of the Xianglin Fengjing–Lingang Station section (hereinafter referred to as the "Xianglin Section") of the second phase of the Jinan Metro Line 3 project. This marks the completion of both lines of the Xianglin Section and represents another solid step toward the goal of full-line breakthrough for the second phase of the Jinan Metro Line 3 project.

The right line of the Xianglin Section of the second phase of the Jinan Metro Line 3 project has a total length of 1.46 kilometers. It starts from the Xianglin Section ventilation shaft and runs north along Jichang Road. The section is excavated using the shield tunneling method, employing an open-face cutterhead to cut through the soil layer. Concrete segment linings are installed at the shield tail to provide reaction force for the shield machine's forward advancement, and the excavated spoil is finally transported out by screw conveyor in coordination with battery-powered muck cars. The excavation strata are basically full-face silty clay and silt. Construction efficiency is affected by the cohesive strata. At the same time, this section passes beneath high-voltage power poles, passes alongside a planned elevated station bridge and 1–3 story buildings, and involves 13 secondary risk sources, posing severe challenges to shield tunneling construction.

Due to the complex construction conditions and tight schedule of this section, in order to ensure that excavation of both the left and right lines is completed on schedule, the construction party overcame various difficulties during launching and excavation. Facing the complex construction environment, they prepared a detailed special construction plan for the shield tunnel section and held multiple expert review meetings to discuss and overcome the key and difficult issues at different stages of construction.

To address the problem of mud cake formation during excavation in silty clay strata, which affects excavation efficiency, the technical personnel strengthened muck conditioning measures. They strictly controlled the cutterhead water spray volume, the proportion of foam concentrate, and the injection volume of foam mixture to adjust the workability of the muck, thereby solving the problem of low excavation efficiency of the shield machine in silty clay layers.

When passing through risk sources, the shield machine carried out pressurized excavation, adjusted the shield attitude, controlled the advance speed, strengthened secondary grouting, strengthened monitoring and measurement, and promptly adjusted the grouting pressure and grouting volume according to actual monitoring data, thereby ensuring that the shield machine safely passed through all risk sources.

To ensure construction quality, construction management personnel strictly established a quality control system, clarified the responsible personnel for each construction process, actively implemented the requirements of various shield tunnel construction specifications, and truly maintained zero tolerance for issues large and small during construction, ensuring that the shield tunneling task is completed on schedule.

The second phase of the Jinan Metro Line 3 starts from Tantou Station, the terminal station of the first phase, in the south and extends north to Yaoqiang Airport Station, running along Daoxiang Road and Jichang Road. The line has a total length of approximately 13.01 kilometers and includes 6 stations, of which 3 are transfer stations. The entire line is laid underground.

After completion, the line will connect and provide transfer with major transportation hubs such as Jinan West Railway Station, Jinan Railway Station, Jinan East Railway Station, and Yaoqiang Airport, promoting efficient connections between the metro and transportation modes such as high-speed rail and intercity rail. It will strengthen the connection between Jinan Yaoqiang Airport, the airport economic zone, and the main urban area. By improving regional transportation conditions and optimizing the investment environment, it will promote the relocation of some enterprises from the city center. It is of great significance for accelerating the development and construction of the Jinan Airport Economic Zone, radiating and driving surrounding passenger flows, and effectively alleviating urban traffic congestion.
