Recently, at a coal production base in the southern Philippines, the impressive performance of XCMG double-wheel trench cutters in constructing a seawater seepage barrier wall prompted a local government site inspection and won widespread praise.

As early as mid-2022, the coal production base had experienced seawater intrusion. The company purchased three XCMG multi-function drilling rigs and successfully solved the seawater intrusion problem by building concrete protective walls.

As the coal mining area expanded, the mine drew ever closer to the coastline. To prevent seawater from seeping in underground, the project decided to use double-wheel trench cutters to build a seepage barrier wall. The customer had earlier compared international advanced products; beyond the leading performance, the XCMG team won the customer over by standing on the customer's side and providing on-site support with special construction methods tailored to the customer's customized requirements.

In December 2022, the XCMG XTC120 double-wheel trench cutter began seepage barrier wall construction. The total project length is about 10 kilometers, with the first section about 500 meters.

The geology is divided into three layers from top to bottom: first, a backfill layer of about 35 meters, mainly clay with coal slag, gravel and sand, relatively hard when air-dried; the middle layer is about 15 meters of coral rock with developed pores and hardness above 35 MPa, which is the key area of concern for the customer; the third layer is the original clay layer, whose surface height varies.

The customer's goal was to break through the entire coral limestone layer to reach the bottom clay layer, then backfill with clay.

The XCMG double-wheel trench cutter and supporting equipment successfully broke through the hardest coral rock. Before XCMG equipment was deployed, the project had also used various methods to build the seepage barrier wall, but with little effect. 

Although the customer had some prior understanding of the advanced construction and high efficiency of XCMG double-wheel trench cutters in trenching, when construction actually began, the strength of XCMG equipment gave the customer a sufficient surprise, far exceeding expectations.

The project initially expected 1 meter per hour, but the XCMG double-wheel trench cutter actually achieved a penetration depth of 7-8 meters per hour in actual construction. From the initially planned one panel per day, then two panels per day, the equipment still had capacity to spare, and now it has increased to three panels per day.

Facing the global construction boom, XCMG will focus more on customer needs, increase investment in product R&D, and provide customers with customized, complete construction solutions including construction methods, comprehensively consolidating product core competitiveness, so that users worldwide can experience the charm of XCMG from the East.
