On the morning of April 16, as the on-site engineer issued the launch command, the "Dongjin No. 3" shield machine, dressed in "red attire," slowly started up, marking that the shield tunneling section (right line) between Pingxi and Low Carbon City Station on Shenzhen Metro Line 3 has officially entered the shield construction stage, and China Railway Shanhe has taken another step forward in the construction of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area.

It is understood that after the completion of Shenzhen Metro Line 3, it will greatly enhance Shenzhen's urban rail transit operating capacity, further raise the level of economic development in the eastern part of Longgang, and strengthen connections among the major clusters in the east.
The shield tunneling project in which China Railway Shanhe is participating this time is a double-line metro tunnel. The right line of the section has a starting and ending chainage length of 967.50 m and a maximum burial depth of 32.7 m. The shield machine starts from Low Carbon City Station and must pass beneath a karst development area, the Xiao Family Watchtower Site, buildings and structures, rivers, and important pipelines before finally reaching Pingxi Station, one of the first metro stations in China built with a long-arch, large-span assembled structure under an internal support system. During this excavation, the shield machine mainly passes through slightly weathered marble, completely weathered granite, strongly weathered granite (soil-like and blocky), and moderately weathered granite. There are karst caves in the marble layer at the receiving end, and the surrounding environment is complex, resulting in relatively high construction risks.

In response to construction difficulties such as dense karst development in this project, before launch, the project carried out advance grouting reinforcement and other measures in advance, while also optimizing the design of the shield machine. Advanced technologies such as visualization of the soil chamber, automatic measurement of shield tail clearance, automatic measurement of muck, and air-conditioned ventilation and cooling in the tunnel were adopted in shield construction to ensure smooth excavation by the shield machine.
In addition, due to the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic in Shenzhen, the project's preliminary work was carried out under difficult conditions. To ensure the smooth progress of the project, all employees of the project department, with the full support of the company and the project department, adhered to daily temperature checks and code verification, nucleic acid testing, and strict control of personnel entry and exit, always giving top priority to epidemic prevention and control, thereby laying a solid foundation for the smooth launch of the shield.
At present, China Railway Shanhe has participated in multiple Greater Bay Area projects, including Guangzhou Metro Line 13, Shenzhen Metro Line 14, and Dongguan Metro Line 1. Adhering to the concept of "creating value for customers," China Railway Shanhe will this time build a green, environmentally friendly, technological, and high-quality project with high quality, high standards, and high efficiency, supporting the construction of the Greater Bay Area and laying a solid foundation for its annual goal of establishing a foothold in the Greater Bay Area.
