At 8 a.m. on December 7, after 251 days of intensive construction, the Xicun Port Cross-Sea Bridge in Beihai — the city's first cross-sea bridge, built by the Third Company of China Railway 20th Bureau — was successfully closed. The Xicun Port Cross-Sea Bridge is a key passage connecting the east and west banks of Xicun Port in Beihai as well as the Yintan New Town, Haiyang New Town, Tieshangang New Town and other functional areas. The bridge has a total length of 2,544 meters, of which the cross-sea section is 1,776 meters, and is designed with six lanes in both directions. The main bridge adopts a semi-floating system, twin-tower, twin-cable-plane cable-stayed design, while the approach bridges use a small box girder structure. The main towers feature a large-inclination spatial gem-shaped cable tower rarely seen in China, with a shape derived from the bronze phoenix lamp, a Western Han artifact unearthed in Beihai. The phoenix-shaped tower, paired with cables resembling the strings of a zither, gives the main bridge a distinctive "phoenix crown and zither charm" — a first in China.

The Xicun Port sea area where the bridge is located has strong winds, rough waves and complex hydrological conditions. During construction, the project contractor formulated a detailed construction plan for offshore work and, for the closure, fully considered factors such as the bridge's structural characteristics, road transport, construction site layout, the surrounding environment of the bridge site and traffic conditions to develop an erection plan, ensuring that the closure operation proceeded safely and in an orderly manner.
Once completed, the bridge will connect Beihai's Yintan New Town and Haiyang New Town, and is of great significance to Beihai's efforts to build a national demonstration city for innovative development of the marine-oriented economy and to create an international corridor oriented toward ASEAN.
