The Shanghai Songze Elevated Road West Extension Project is the first express elevated route in Qingpu District, with construction starting at the end of 2017. The main elevated section has now achieved structural completion, and bridge deck paving and ancillary facilities are currently under construction. It is expected to open to traffic next year.

Workers are installing sound barriers and supporting facilities on the elevated bridge deck. Vehicles now entering some sections of the elevated road report a good overall driving experience, with no noticeable jolting when passing over the bridge deck expansion joints.

Since construction officially began in 2017, the Songze Elevated Road project has overcome the impacts of flood seasons, severe weather, and the pandemic, and promptly resolved difficult issues during construction such as the raising of high-voltage lines at the Xintong substation and pipeline relocation. The main elevated section has achieved structural completion, and bridge deck paving and ancillary facilities are currently under construction. The main elevated section has reached 95% of its visual progress, and the ground-level roads and bridges are about 70% complete. It is expected to open to traffic next year.

It is reported that the Songze Elevated Road West Extension Project has a total length of approximately 18.06 km and a red line width of 50 m. It starts at Caoying Road in the west and ends at the toll station east of the G15 interchange on Songze Elevated Road in the east (the elevated section starts at Shengli Road in the west). The design standard for the entire elevated line is an urban expressway, with six lanes in both directions and a design speed of 80 km/h.

The Songze Elevated Road connects the National Exhibition and Convention Center, the venue of the China International Import Expo, to the east and coordinates with the Yangtze River Delta Integrated Demonstration Zone to the west. It is a development axis linking Qingpu to two national strategies. To the east, it supplements and improves Shanghai's backbone road network and serves as a fast corridor between Qingpu New City and Shanghai's central urban area; to the west, it is a fast corridor linking the clusters in Shanghai's western region (the Jiading-Qingpu-Songjiang-Hongqiao area) and a tourism route to the Jiangnan water town scenic areas of Suzhou and the Dianshan Lake scenic area. Once the Songze Elevated Road opens to traffic, it will greatly facilitate travel for Qingpu residents and is of great significance for improving Qingpu's road network structure, making travel more convenient, strengthening connections between districts, and enhancing the city's image.
