Rendering of the Baishiyi Tunnel Project

It was learned on October 11 that the construction drawings for Phase I of the Chongqing Baishiyi Tunnel have been completed, and construction is expected to begin within the year.

The Baishiyi Tunnel project starts on the east side of the Shizikou Interchange on the First Vertical Line of the expressway network, extends eastward, crosses the Zhongliang Mountains in the form of an extra-long tunnel, and ends at the Huayan Interchange on the Inner Ring Expressway, with a total route length of 10.4 km. The main line is designed to urban expressway standards, with a design speed of 80 km/h and six lanes in both directions. According to the construction plan, the project will be built in three phases; Phase I, about 7.5 kilometers long, is expected to start within the year.

As an important controlling project of the Eighth Horizontal Line of the expressway network crossing the Zhongliang Mountains, the project is an important east-west express corridor in the central and southern parts of the central urban area of the metropolitan area. Once completed, it will play an important role in promoting the development of the core area of the Science City and advancing transport integration in the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.

It is understood that a total of 35 mountain-crossing tunnels (including existing tunnels) are planned in the Science City. Among them, 19 cross the Zhongliang Mountains, and 16 are planned for construction across the Jinyun Mountains. As of now, the Jinfeng Tunnel has completed 13% of the total project volume, and the Science City Tunnel has completed 7.5%. The Baishiyi Tunnel is preparing for construction bidding and is scheduled to start in November. Preliminary work is underway for the Huxi Tunnel and the Xiyong Tunnel, which are planned to start within the year and next year, respectively.
