On September 29, the Yuanbo Center Station–Yuhegou Station section (Yuan-Yu section) of the Chongqing Metro Line 5 North Extension civil works package 1 successfully completed its double-track breakthrough.

The Yuan-Yu section is the starting section of the Line 5 North Extension project, with its starting point connected to Yuanbo Center Station of the Line 5 Phase I project. About 1,795 meters long, it is the longest section of the entire Line 5 North Extension and a controlling project for the whole line. The successful double-track breakthrough of the Yuan-Yu section has laid a solid foundation for the "tunnel breakthrough" and opening of the entire line, marking that the project has officially entered the sprint stage of the countdown to track laying.

The Line 5 North Extension project is 8.64 kilometers long and spans Liangjiang New Area and Yubei District. Once completed, it will join with the Line 5 Phase I project to form a north-south trunk corridor linking Dadukou District, Jiulongpo District, Shapingba District, Yuzhong District, Jiangbei District, Liangjiang New Area and Yubei District.

After the full line opens to traffic, it will greatly enhance connectivity among the relevant areas, ease the north-south passenger flow pressure on Chongqing's rail network, improve the urban living environment and facilitate public travel, providing strong support for the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle.
