With the formation of Nanchang's urban spatial pattern of one river and two banks, the pressure on cross-river traffic is increasing. Currently, the Jiulong Lake Cross-River Bridge has entered the pile foundation construction stage for the main bridge of the main line. To its south, Nanchang will add another cross-river bridge—the Hongzhou Bridge. The project is expected to start construction in 2022 and be completed in 2025.

Recently, the Jiangxi Provincial Investment Project Online Approval and Supervision Platform publicized the filing information for the Hongzhou Bridge project. Public information shows that the project spans Nanchang County and Honggutan District in Nanchang, and is a cross-river bridge connecting Pingxiang Avenue and Xiaolan Avenue. The total length is about 4.8 kilometers, and the cross-river section of the main bridge is about 1.6 kilometers long. It adopts a dual eight-lane design. The construction and installation cost is about 1.3 billion yuan, and the total project investment is 1.6 billion yuan.
