On September 19, as the 34-2 precast box girder on the right span of Bitang Grand Bridge was steadily fed and lifted, and precisely lowered into its designated position, the Bitang Grand Bridge, a key control project of the second contract section of the Ningshao Expressway project, achieved full-span erection.

The center chainage of Bitang Grand Bridge is K32+633, with a starting chainage of K32+119.8 and an ending chainage of K33+146.2. The total bridge length is 1026.4 m. The superstructure consists of 34×30 m precast small box girders, with 9 units for both the left and right spans, adopting the simply supported then continuous form; the substructure piers adopt double-column piers with pile foundations, and the abutments adopt ribbed-plate abutments, with a maximum pier height of about 23.6 m.

The geological conditions at the location of Bitang Grand Bridge are extremely complex. The project department established a technical research team, introduced high-power rotary drilling rigs, and continuously adjusted the construction plan according to different geological conditions, effectively overcoming the harsh geological conditions, ensuring the quality and progress of pile foundation construction, and rapidly opening up the working face for the substructure, laying a solid foundation for the subsequent full-span erection.

During the box girder installation, the project department assigned dedicated personnel to grind and trim the bearing pads, remove laitance, check flatness with a spirit level, and then mark the bearing centerlines and positioning cross lines. The erected bridge is flat and straight, with a neat appearance. The smooth completion of the girder erection work for Bitang Grand Bridge brings the Ningshao Expressway project one step closer to the goal of basically completing the main civil engineering works by the end of 2021.
