Many key projects are underway in Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, spanning infrastructure and culture, including subways, art museums, libraries, and schools, all progressing vigorously. To build a batch of key projects in Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, which key projects in Nanjing are about to be completed in 2021?
1. Phase I Project of Yanshan Avenue, Nanjing Jiangbei New Area
The Phase I project of Yanshan Avenue started in March 2020. To date, the right-side road diversion of the section from the Beijing-Shanghai Railway to the Linpu Railway has been completed, along with tunnel retaining pile construction, tunnel open-cut section base slab and side wall construction, installation of the cross-Puchang railway bridge deck, and concrete box girder pouring for the eight-span viaduct; excavation and base slab construction of the tunnel buried section are underway. The project is expected to open the main line to traffic on October 1, 2021, excluding railway-related nodes; complete auxiliary roads and landscaping by December 31, 2021; and complete project acceptance before the 2022 Spring Festival.
2. Shantou Plot Shantytown Renovation Project, Nanjing Chemical Industrial Park
The project is located in Dachang Subdistrict, bounded by Yangxin Road to the north, planned roads to the west and south, and Xudong Road to the east (the specific land use scope is subject to the red line).
The Phase I land area is approximately 57,600 square meters, planned as R2 Class II residential land. The Phase II land area is approximately 54,700 square meters, also planned as R2 Class II residential land, with main construction content including housing and supporting facilities.
Phase I is basically topped out and has entered the decoration and earth backfilling stage. Phase II is still in the foundation excavation stage.
3. Key Project of the New Nanjing Art Museum in Jiangbei New Area
The new Nanjing Art Museum is located on the west side of the intersection of Shifo Avenue and Wanshou Road in the core area of Jiangbei New Area, with a total construction area of approximately 97,000 square meters. The building has an irregular Hui-shaped (回-shaped) plan: two floors underground and four above ground, with the main roof elevation at 31.8 meters and the central hall roof elevation at 43.35 meters. The two underground floors are frame structures, while the above-ground structure is a reinforced concrete tube-steel truss structure.
The new Nanjing Art Museum has entered its final sprint stage and is expected to be basically completed in September.
4. Nanjing Jiangbei Library Project
Jiangbei Library is located in Dingshan Subdistrict, Jiangbei New Area, on the north side of the junction of Shifo Avenue and Wanshou Road. It is a key construction project in Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, positioned as a national first-class library integrating traditional reading and new media functions, including special functional areas such as a children's reading center, new media center, and Nanjing Urban Image Memory Hall, to create an "urban plaza." Once completed, the project will become a cultural landmark of the new area and a carrier for cooperation and exchange in the new area's scientific, technological, cultural, and social development.
Jiangbei Library is currently undergoing exterior curtain wall and outdoor environment construction and is expected to be completed by the end of 2022.
5. Phase II Project of Nanjing Metro Line 4
The annual investment in the Phase II project of Nanjing Metro Line 4 has exceeded 50%. In Civil Works Section 1, Zhenzhuquan Station has completed 364 retaining piles (56%), and Dingxianghebei Station has completed 104 retaining piles (33%). In Civil Works Section 2, Pujiang Station has completed 10 diaphragm walls (12.5%).

6. Phase I Construction Project of the Underground Space in Jiangbei New Area
The Phase I construction project of the underground space in Jiangbei New Area covers a land area of 296,600 square meters, with a planned underground construction area of 851,000 square meters, including 12 plots and the roads between them. It is planned to build underground utility tunnels, underground commerce, underground parking lots, underground public spaces, underground vaults, as well as the running sections and transfer stations of Metro Lines 4, 11, 13, and 15. The deepest structure is seven floors underground, and the deepest point of the foundation pit is 50.8 meters below ground.
Project investment has reached 65%. Some building structures in Zone 1 have emerged above ground; the remaining plots have completed partial retaining structure and pile foundation construction, and a few plots are undergoing structural construction. Some plots in Zone 2 are undergoing earth excavation and bracing construction, and some have completed base slab construction. The remaining central plot is undergoing pile foundation construction.
7. 2018G05 Rental Housing Project in the New Area
The 2018G05 Rental Housing Project in Jiangbei New Area is a pilot project for Nanjing's housing rental market. The project is located at the southeast corner of the intersection of Zhenzhu South Road and Yingjiang Road, consisting of 5 high-rise residential buildings, 1 two-story shop, and 3 one-story power distribution rooms.
The main structure of the project passed acceptance in April this year. Decoration and outdoor works are currently being advanced, and completion is planned for September 2021.
8. Cambridge University Nanjing Science and Innovation Center
The Cambridge University Nanjing Science and Innovation Center is located in the Central Business District of Nanjing Jiangbei New Area, bounded by Puba Road to the east, Kangsan Street to the south, Zhenzhu River to the west, and Guangxi Geng Street to the north.
Currently, Building A has passed the acceptance of divisional and sub-divisional works, and the property management team has moved in to work; Building B has completed the main structure construction and is undergoing installation of mechanical and electrical pipelines, air ducts, supports and hangers, and facilities and equipment, as well as exterior curtain wall decoration, interior fine decoration, and outdoor works. It is expected to be fully completed in the second half of this year.
9. Yangtze River International Conference Center
The Yangtze River International Conference Center is located in the core area of Jiangbei New Area. Above ground, it includes four parts: a multifunctional area, a conference and banquet area, a hotel area, and an office area. The project was basically completed on June 30.
The steel structure of the Yangtze River International Conference Center totals approximately 46,000 tons, 6.6 times the weight of the Eiffel Tower and 3.3 times that of the New Area Civic Center. Both the multifunctional area and the conference and banquet area are large-span spatial truss structures. In the multifunctional area, a single truss is 130 meters long, with a span of 72 meters and a single truss weight of 390 tons; the 9,000-square-meter high-clearance space has no columns, equivalent to 1.26 times the area of a standard football field. The hotel area has 33 floors and adopts a "steel frame + steel bracing" structural system, with plan length-to-width and height-to-width ratios close to the limits; its complex structure is among the few in China.
The Bonded Logistics Center (Type B) Project of the Nanjing Jiangbei Seaport Hub Economic Zone is located in the Xiba Port Area of Jiangbei New Area, covering about 300 mu. Currently, Phase I has been fully completed; Phase II has fully entered the foundation construction stage and is expected to complete the main structure topping-out within this year and be completed in June 2022.
10. Nanjing Agricultural University Jiangbei New Campus Project
Section II of the Nanjing Agricultural University Jiangbei New Campus has a total construction area of 210,000 square meters and is constructed by China Construction Eighth Engineering Division Corp. Ltd. (Third Construction Co., Ltd.). Currently, pile foundation, foundation pit support works, and earth excavation have all been completed, and the project has fully entered the main structure construction stage. It is expected that all main structure construction will be completed by the end of October this year, and the project will be put into use on September 30, 2022.
