The first pile foundation for the main pier in water of the Foshan Grand Bridge on the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway was successfully drilled.

According to news from China Railway Guangzhou Engineering Group Co., Ltd. on the 19th, recently, accompanied by the sound of firecrackers and roaring machinery, the first pile foundation for the main pier in water of the Foshan Grand Bridge on the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang High-Speed Railway was successfully drilled, marking that the bridge has fully entered the pile foundation construction phase.

The Foshan Grand Bridge on the Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway adopts a hybrid composite cable-stayed bridge design, crossing the Dongping Waterway in Foshan. The main bridge as a whole is a double-tower, seven-span cable-stayed bridge, with an effective tower height above the bridge deck of 109 meters. The main piers of the bridge adopt a group pile foundation structure, with 40 piles for each main pier.

According to the introduction, the main towers of the cable-stayed bridge are A-shaped towers, with the Guangzhou-side tower being 149 meters high and the Zhanjiang-side tower being 147 meters high. The climbing formwork for the main towers and the high-altitude operation of the cross beams have a long cycle and high safety risks, which are the key points of this project. The bridge is located in a secondary drinking water source protection zone, with high requirements for water quality and environmental protection. The Dongping Waterway in Foshan crossed by the bridge is a Class II navigation channel, with dense navigable vessels and a complex environment.

The Guangzhou-Zhanjiang Railway is the railway project with the highest standards, the longest line, and the largest investment in the history of Guangdong Province. It has a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour. Its starting station is Guangzhou Railway Station in Yuexiu District, Guangzhou, passing through Foshan, Yunfu, Yangjiang, and other places, and its terminal station is Zhanjiang North Station. It is an important part of the high-speed railway corridor connecting the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, the Hainan Free Trade Port, and the Beibu Gulf urban agglomeration. After the railway is completed, it will greatly shorten the space-time distance between western Guangdong and the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and greatly improve the travel conditions of residents in western Guangdong.
