The much-watched Baogong Avenue Elevated Road, Susong Road Elevated Road, and the southern extension of the Jinzhai Road Elevated Road will all begin construction within this year. On July 12, the Hefei Urban and Rural Construction Bureau announced that as of the end of June, the city had 822 major construction projects underway, with cumulative investment of 29.6 billion yuan. According to the plan, a large number of construction projects, including the Second Ring Road Unblocking Project, will see new progress.

Jinzhai Road Elevated Road Plans Southern Extension in Second Half of Year

According to statistics, Hefei invested heavily in urban expressway construction in the first half of this year. Among the projects, the main structure and ancillary works of the Second Ring Road North Ring Unblocking Project (8.5 km) have been fully completed, and construction of the ground-level side roads and ancillary facilities is underway; the main elevated bridge of the Second Ring Road Southwest Ring Unblocking Project (5.7 km) has been fully joined; the main structure of Huaihai Avenue (5.3 km) is under construction; and Wenzhong Road (5.4 km) and Langxi Road (4.7 km) have begun construction.

According to the plan, the city will also build three new elevated bridges in the second half of this year. Among them, construction bidding for the Baogong Avenue Elevated Bridge (13 km) has been completed, and pre-construction preparations are underway. Projects including the Jinzhai Road rapid transformation (11.6 km) and the Susong Road rapid transformation (16.6 km) are planned to begin construction in the second half of the year.

Regarding the last node project of the Second Ring Road Unblocking Project, which residents are closely watching — the Second Ring Road West Ring Project (Fanwa Road–North Second Ring Road) — a relevant official from Hefei's construction department said the plan for this node project has been basically finalized, and every effort will be made to start construction within this year. It is reported that the project extends from the North Second Ring Road in the north to Fanwa Road in the south, with a total length of 2.9 km and a planned red line width of 70 meters, and is an urban expressway. The project will start the bridge north of Fanwa Road, use an elevated form to continuously cross Gaotanghu Road and Qingxi Road, then connect with the Northwest Second Ring Road node, and set up a T-shaped interchange at the Qingxi Road node to achieve rapid transfer with the Qingxi Road Elevated Road.

According to the latest construction progress, the intersection of Mingguang Road and Shengli Road and the intersection of Shengli Road and Shouchun Road are under construction; construction bidding is being organized for the intersection of Changjiang West Road and West Second Ring Road and the intersection of Jinzhai Road and Jixi Road; and construction bidding will be organized in the near future for the intersection of Ma'anshan Road and Changjiang Middle Road, the intersection of Huancheng East Road and Changjiang Middle Road, the intersection of Huancheng East Road and Huaihe Road, and the intersection of Huancheng East Road and Shouchun Road.

In terms of opening dead-end roads, Hefei continued construction on 20 dead-end roads this year. As of now, 7 roads, including Hebei Road and Nanping Road, have been completed; 13 projects, including Guoyang Road, are under construction. A relevant official from the Hefei Urban and Rural Construction Bureau said that the 26 dead-end roads planned for construction this year are progressing according to plan. Among them, Huaibei Road and Yixian Road have begun construction, construction bidding is underway for Dongfang Avenue and Huanghe Road, bidding for Qingyuan Road has been completed, and construction will begin soon.

First Underground Interchange in the Province, Deepest Point 26 Meters Below Ground

The Luokou Central Park area has long been a focus of public attention, and the underground interchange in the area is also the first in the province.

"The reason some roads in the Luokou Central Park area use an underpass method is mainly to minimize the impact on the park landscape," said a relevant official from Hefei's construction department. In order to fully preserve the main runway of Luokou Airport, further improve land use efficiency, and optimize the spatial layout, Huayuan Avenue (Baohe Avenue–Huizhou Avenue), Dalian Road (Baohe Avenue–Qinghai Road), and Luzhou Avenue (Fanhua Avenue–Jinxiu Avenue) all use tunnel boring under the Luokou Ecological Park, as well as pipe-roof jacking construction technology. This is also the first time Anhui Province has used this technology.

Luzhou Avenue has a total length of 4.5 km, including a 2.6-km tunnel, currently the longest municipal tunnel in the province. Huayuan Avenue will intersect with Luzhou Avenue underground, forming the province's first underground interchange project, with the deepest point reaching 26 meters below ground. As of now, the main works of the Luzhou Avenue, Dalian Road, and Huayuan Avenue tunnels are progressing smoothly, and Huayuan Avenue and Dalian Road will also be extended westward in the future. Huanghe Road in the area is planned to enter the site in July; the construction unit for Jinxiu Lake Park has entered the site; construction bidding for the foundation pit support works of the Binhu International Exchange Center project has been completed; and the Luokou Garden Expo Park has completed revisions and improvements to its planning scheme, with various special tasks proceeding in an orderly manner.

In addition to the Luokou Central Park area, other areas among Hefei's five major zones have also made new progress. Among them, the Comprehensive Research Facility for Key Systems of Fusion Reactors in the Major Scientific Facility Cluster area is progressing according to plan; construction of roads, bridges, rainwater and sewage pipelines, and storage tanks is underway on the G206 connector road (formerly Sanguocheng Road) (Gucheng Road–Huaihai Road); and plans for Tangang Road, Gucheng Road, Weiyi Road, Jingsi Road, and Leiyu Road have been determined. In the Western Canal New City, the Western New City Sewage Treatment Plant has been completed; Zhouweishao Road, Machang Road, and Yanghewan Road have been completed; and main structure construction is accelerating on 26 roads, including Xicheng Avenue; construction has begun on 4 projects, including Xicheng Juyuan and Ziwei Yuan; Phase I of the Yangtze-to-Huaihe Water Diversion resettlement site is under construction, and construction bidding for Phase II has been completed.
