The Laixi-Rongcheng High-Speed Railway starts from Laixi North Station in the west and passes through Haiyang City. Construction of the Haiyang section began in 2020 and is divided into two bid sections under simultaneous construction. At present, tunnel, bridge and station construction in the Haiyang section is in full swing, with the entire line scheduled for completion and opening to traffic in 2023.

The Laixi-Rongcheng Railway has seven stations along its entire length: Laixi North Station, Laiyang Dingziwan Station, Haiyang Station, Rushan South Station, Weihai South Station, Wendeng South Station and Rongcheng Station. The total length of the line is 192.814 km, with a target speed of 350 km/h. The Haiyang section is 53.45 km long, and the total project investment is 28.4 billion yuan. Haiyang Station is designed with seven structures and 1.15 million cubic meters of fill. At present, 60% of the threaded piles for soft foundation treatment have been completed, and 20,000 square meters of cushion layers have been finished. Next, filling of the main subgrade body will continue.

The Haiyang section of the Laixi-Rongcheng High-Speed Railway includes four tunnels—Yuhuang Mountain, Laoshan, Shentong Mountain and Yuhuangding—11 bridges and 14 subgrade sections, with a bridge-tunnel ratio of 80%. At present, tunnel and bridge construction in the Haiyang section is proceeding simultaneously. Among them, the Laoshan Tunnel, located west of Liugezhuang Town in Haiyang City, is 2,328 meters long and began construction on January 16. At present, it is being constructed simultaneously from both the entrance and exit working faces, with cumulative excavation of 120 meters.
It is understood that construction of large temporary land-use facilities within the Haiyang section of the Laixi-Rongcheng High-Speed Railway has been completed and put into use, and all 17 controlling works have started construction. As of mid-June, the Haiyang section had completed 3,307 pile foundations, excavated 340,000 cubic meters of subgrade, and advanced 884 meters in tunnel excavation, with cumulative investment of about 500 million yuan. Once the project is completed, it will effectively improve the high-speed railway network layout in the Jiaodong Peninsula region and greatly shorten travel times, helping to realize a one-hour circle within the peninsula, a two-hour circle within the province, and a three-hour rapid transport circle with central cities such as Beijing and Shanghai. It will also help leverage the economic, social and tourism resource advantages along the line and support Haiyang in better integrating into the integrated development of the Jiaodong Peninsula economic circle.
