At 9 p.m. on June 27, the Qujiang Grand Bridge on the Guang'an Ring Expressway was brightly lit and bustling with activity. As the hopper lifted by the crane began discharging material for pouring, the closure of the bridge's right span officially began. By midnight that night, after more than 30 workers had worked continuously for 3 hours, the right span of the Qujiang Grand Bridge was successfully closed.

The Qujiang Grand Bridge on the Guang'an Ring Expressway spans Mayue Village, Shisun Town, Guang'an District, and Hucheng Town, Qianfeng District. It is a key controlling "throat project" of the East Ring Line of the Guang'an Transit Expressway and the Chongqing-Guang'an Expressway branch line. The bridge has a total investment of 319 million yuan, a total length of 1,108.5 meters, a deck width of 31.5 meters, and a standard two-way four-lane design. Construction began on January 26, 2019, with a total of 15 piers. It is scheduled to be completed and opened to traffic before the end of November this year.

The reporter learned that this time the bridge had four closure sections—side spans and the central span—closed simultaneously. Each closure section has a deck width of 15.5 meters and a length of 2 meters, requiring 26 cubic meters of concrete. Why was nighttime chosen for the bridge closure? Li Ming, chief engineer of the bridge project department, told the reporter that from a technical perspective, the bridge closure must be carried out when the temperature is lowest during the day, and the temperature must remain stable for a period of time, so as to ensure that the quality of the bridge closure section meets the relevant technical requirements.

It is reported that after the closure of the right span of the bridge, the project contractor will continue to invest sufficient manpower, materials, and mechanical equipment to accelerate construction progress and, while ensuring safety, quality, and environmental protection, strive to complete the closure of the left span of the bridge in early September.

On December 25, 2020, the Qianfeng District to Chongqing Xiaohe section of the East Ring Line of the Guang'an Transit Expressway and the Chongqing-Guang'an Expressway branch line was officially opened to traffic. After the Qujiang Grand Bridge is completed and put into use, the entire East Ring Line of the Guang'an Transit Expressway and the Chongqing-Guang'an Expressway branch line will be fully connected. This will play an important role in improving the expressway network of Sichuan and Chongqing, improving regional traffic conditions, increasing transportation transfer efficiency, expanding urban development space, and driving the construction of the Chengdu-Chongqing economic circle and the leapfrog economic and social development of the Sichuan-Chongqing region.
