Recently, the launch ceremony for Lanzhou's affordable rental housing projects was grandly held. On the same day, Lanzhou's first affordable rental housing project—Phase II of the Lanzhou Science and Technology Innovation Park—got underway smoothly.

Since Lanzhou launched low-rent housing construction in 2008, it has implemented 117 public rental housing projects and completed 30,500 units, effectively meeting the housing needs of people with housing difficulties. Lanzhou has also made expanding the coverage of public rental housing and increasing the supply of affordable rental housing a top priority of its annual work, concentrating efforts on accelerating the construction of affordable rental housing and striving to meet the basic housing needs of urban "dual-difficulty" families, new urban residents, and young people.

The Phase II affordable rental housing project of the Lanzhou Science and Technology Innovation Park, whose construction began that day, is Lanzhou's first affordable rental housing project and also a practical project for the people undertaken by the provincial government, with a total floor area of 597,000 square meters. Among this, the affordable rental housing portion covers 148,000 square meters, with a total of 2,340 units and an investment of about 1.46 billion yuan. It mainly serves housing-insecure new urban residents in stable employment such as migrant workers, newly employed university graduates, couriers, public transit workers, sanitation workers, and domestic service workers who provide basic public services. It is also equipped with dining, leisure, entertainment, and other facilities to better serve the target beneficiaries. The project is also an important attempt by Lanzhou to explore combining affordable housing construction with commercial complexes to solve the funding problem of affordable housing construction.
