Recently, the first closure segment steel box girder of the Croatia Pelješac Bridge and connecting road project was successfully hoisted. The project was won by a consortium comprising China Road and Bridge Corporation, CCCC Highway Consultants Co., Ltd., CCCC Second Highway Engineering Co., Ltd., and CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., all subsidiaries of CCCC, with construction undertaken by CCCC Second Highway Engineering Co., Ltd.

The Pelješac Bridge has a total length of approximately 3.94 kilometers, including a 2,440-meter main bridge designed as a six-tower single-cable-plane cable-stayed bridge. The hoisted closure segment steel box girder, CR4, is 29.7 meters long and weighs 357.6 tons. To meet the hoisting precision requirements, the project team comprehensively considered factors such as the closure welding process, the combined temperature effects of the towers, girders, and cables, and the overall shrinkage and creep of the structure, ultimately achieving the synchronous lifting of the extra-long, extra-heavy closure segment and the first application of the low-temperature match-cutting method for long-span closure segment steel box girders. At present, all 165 steel box girders of the bridge have been delivered to the bridge site and will be hoisted and closed in succession according to the construction progress at each pier.

The Pelješac Bridge project is the largest transportation infrastructure construction project in Croatia since the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Croatia. Once completed, the bridge will span the Little Ston Bay of the Adriatic Sea, connecting the separated Croatian territories across the sea, effectively shortening travel time between the two areas and ending the history of land travel between the northern and southern parts of Croatia having to detour through Bosnia and Herzegovina.
