In just a few days, the Jiangguang Expressway leading directly to Yangzhou East Railway Station will be completed and opened to traffic. On the 19th, at the construction site, the reporter saw workers racing against time, working day and night to meet the deadline, going all out for the final push.
At around 7 a.m., the Jiangguang Expressway construction site was already bustling. On the Zhuyuwan Bridge, busy construction workers could be seen everywhere—some applying a fresh coat of paint to the bridge, some pouring guardrails, and others working on expansion joints. "The main structure of the Jiangguang Expressway is fully complete, and we are now working on ancillary projects," Qian Jun, head of the Jiangguang Expressway project, told the reporter. At present, asphalt has not yet been paved at two locations, including the Zhuyuwan Bridge, while streetlights and lighting have basically been installed. The Zhuyuwan Bridge is located west of the Wanfu Bridge, with a total length of 224 meters and a width of 53.2 meters. It has eight lanes in both directions, a design speed of 80 kilometers per hour, and a three-span continuous steel truss arch structure. Once completed, the bridge will become the widest truss arch bridge spanning an inland river in the province.
At the easternmost section of the expressway, the expressway will connect with the Wanfu Bridge. More than 100 meters of road surface in the connecting section still await asphalt paving, but the cement-stabilized base has already been laid and is being cured, while some crash barriers on the south side await concrete pouring.
The Jiangguang Expressway is an important "horizontal" artery in the expressway network of Yangzhou's central urban area. With a total length of 3.152 kilometers, it runs from Yunhe North Road to the Wanfu Bridge and is entirely newly built, including the Zhuyuwan Bridge over the Beijing-Hangzhou Grand Canal and about 2.928 kilometers of elevated roadway. The Jiangguang Expressway connects to the east with the Wanfu Bridge, Yangzhou East Railway Station, and the urban expressway ring composed of the Jiangping Expressway, Yunhe Expressway, Runyang Expressway, and the Southern Expressway. Once completed and opened to traffic, it will play a very important role in improving the urban expressway network, alleviating traffic congestion, and enhancing the city's image.
