Amid the concrete pouring and the cheers of workers, the first TD3 segment of the main tower column of the Binhai Bay Bridge successfully completed concrete pouring in just 12 hours. The total volume of concrete poured this time was approximately 600 cubic meters, laying a solid foundation for the completion of the main structure of the entire bridge by the end of this year.

Unique bridge location makes it an important corridor in Binhai Bay

The Binhai Bay Bridge is located at an important node of the planned inner bay and the coastal vitality landscape corridor, spanning the mouth of the Modie River where it flows into the sea. It is an important corridor connecting the Jiaoyi Bay area and the Shajiao area of the Binhai Bay New Area. The bridge has a total length of 0.9736 km, with eight lanes in both directions on the main line, and is an urban main road. The main bridge structure of the Binhai Bay Bridge adopts a single-tower twisted-cable-plane steel box girder cable-stayed bridge with a tower-pier-girder rigid connection system, and the span combination is (60+200+200+60) m. The main tower is a steel-shell concrete structure, shaped like the Yulan magnolia, the city flower of Dongguan. The tower height is 149.8 m, and the girder width is 60 m. The foundation adopts 26 bored cast-in-place piles with a diameter of 2.5 meters, constructed using XR580HD rotary drilling rigs.

The Binhai Bay Bridge is constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group Co., Ltd. Construction began in May last year, with a total investment of 953 million yuan, a road red line width of 80 m, and a total length of 973.6 m. The entire bridge has 57 steel girder segments, of which 38 have been manufactured; the steel tower is divided into 32 hoisting segments, of which 10 have been manufactured. At present, 53% of the total project volume has been completed, and efforts are being made to achieve completion of the main structure of the entire bridge by the end of this year. After the main structure is completed, the construction unit will carry out the installation of the glass curtain wall at the tower top, guardrails, landscape lighting, bridge deck paving, and other ancillary supporting facilities. Trial opening to traffic is expected in April 2022.

A key transportation route that will become a new calling card for Binhai Bay New Area

Due to its unique geographical location, the bridge is an important node of the new area's coastal landscape vitality corridor and an important corridor linking the Jiaoyi Bay area and the Shajiao Peninsula area. The construction of the Binhai Bay Bridge project will help improve the infrastructure construction conditions of the new area, strengthen the connection between regional roads and national and provincial trunk lines, ease regional traffic conditions, enhance road network capacity, and greatly improve the efficiency of internal and external connectivity of the new area. In the future, the Binhai Bay Bridge will become a new calling card of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area and a landmark building of the future new area.

It is worth mentioning that although the Binhai Bay Bridge has not yet been completed, it has already obtained an appearance design patent for "Single-Column Tower Cable-Stayed Bridge (Binhai Bay Bridge)" and won the "First Prize of 2021 China Railway Excellent QC Achievements."
