Comrade Huang Xiling, an outstanding member of the Communist Party of China, a renowned expert in foundation engineering in China, an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, a national expert with outstanding contributions, an expert enjoying special government allowances from the State Council, Consultant Chief Engineer, Researcher, and Doctoral Supervisor of China Academy of Building Research Co., Ltd., passed away in Beijing at 9:55 on June 16, 2021, at the age of 94 after medical treatment proved ineffective.

Academician Huang Xiling was born on April 24, 1927 in Wuhan, Hubei Province. From 1945 to 1949, he studied in the Department of Civil Engineering at Nanjing Central University. From 1955 to 1959, he pursued advanced studies at the Moscow Civil Engineering Institute and obtained the degree of Candidate of Sciences. He successively served as Director of the Institute of Foundation Engineering of China Academy of Building Research, Deputy Chief Engineer of China Academy of Building Research, Consultant Chief Engineer of China Academy of Building Research, Council Member of the Architectural Society of China, Chairman of the Foundation Engineering Academic Committee of the Architectural Society of China, Vice Chairman of the Soil Mechanics and Foundation Engineering Branch of the China Civil Engineering Society, and Member of the Science and Technology Committee of the Ministry of Construction. In 1995, he was elected an academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering. Throughout his life, Academician Huang Xiling held the ideal of serving the country through science and devoted himself to research on building foundation engineering. He worked diligently and remained steadfast, achieving outstanding accomplishments in fields including foundation design and calculation, in-situ testing, underground cavern pressure, soft soil foundations, mountain area foundations, expansive soil foundations, foundation seismic resistance, and earthquake damage investigation. Academician Huang Xiling was rigorous in scholarship, emphasized engineering practice, attached importance to combining theory with practice, and cultivated a high-level research team for the industry, playing an important role in leading the direction of technological development in China's building foundation construction field. The passing of Academician Huang Xiling is a major loss to China's building foundation field. The farewell ceremony for Academician Huang Xiling's remains is scheduled to be held at 10 a.m. on June 20, 2021 in the East Hall of Babaoshan Funeral Home.
