The B line of the Shanghai major project "Chongming Island–Changxing Island–Pudong New Area Wuhagou LNG Station Pipeline Project" was completed recently. The total tunnel length is 24.5 km, of which the tunnel section is 15.2 km, crossing the South Channel and North Channel of the Yangtze River respectively. Section A runs from Changxing Island to Chongming Island, about 8,237 meters long, and Section B runs from Wuhagou to Changxing Island, about 6,931 meters long. This is the first direct natural gas pipeline completed to Changxing Island in Shanghai. See details below↓

For a considerable period of time, Changxing Island lacked a direct gas transmission pipeline from outside the island. The gas used by island residents was all in the form of liquefied natural gas, transported by ship and tanker truck to gas stations on the island, regasified, and then fed into the gas pipeline network. With the completion of the B-line tunnel, Changxing Island will bid farewell to the history of having no direct pipeline.

According to reports, the total length of the river-crossing pipeline project is about 24.5 km, of which the tunnel section is 15.2 km, consisting of two bid sections, A and B. Section A runs from the North Channel of Changxing Island to Chongming Island, about 8,237 meters long, and Section B runs from Wuhagou in Pudong New Area to the South Channel of Changxing Island, about 6,931 meters long. The "Shenxing" shield tunneling machine took 708 days to successively cross the biogas layer in the main navigation channel at the Yangtze River estuary, as well as four embankments from Pudong to the South Channel of Changxing Island.

At present, Phases I and II of Shanghai's main natural gas pipeline network have been completed and put into operation. The "one network" for natural gas supply is increasingly improving, contributing to Shanghai's green development.
