It is reported that on the Auckland City Rail Link project in New Zealand, a TBM has been positioned at the entrance of Mount Eden Station and is about to launch and begin tunnelling. Following final safety inspections, the TBM will officially launch in the third week of May and begin boring the 1.6 km twin-tube tunnel.

Previously, excavation of the 50 m of tunnel in front of Mount Eden Station was completed to provide launch space for the front of the 7 m diameter machine. The TBM will cross the Central Motorway, then bore toward downtown Auckland and connect with the existing Britomart Station. It is estimated that the first running tunnel will break through by the end of this year, after which the TBM will be disassembled and transported back to the launch site to begin boring the second of the twin tunnels.
The Auckland City Rail Link is 3.45 km long and lies 42 m below downtown Auckland, comprising three new metro stations and the redevelopment of an interchange at an existing metro station. The project is expected to open in 2024.
