On the afternoon of May 9, as the final blast sounded, the right tube of the Xincheng No. 1 Tunnel on the Laidu Expressway was holed through, marking the full-bore breakthrough of the Xincheng No. 1 Tunnel and making it the first tunnel on the Laidu Expressway to be fully bored through.

Construction of the Xincheng No. 1 Tunnel began on July 3, 2020. The right tube holed through this time is 870 meters long with a maximum burial depth of 158.8 meters, and was excavated by driving from both ends. Since the start of construction, the project headquarters has worked closely with the supervision and construction units, taking a proactive approach. Before construction, the process flow was continuously optimized, and the construction method of "advance pipe forepoling, strict grouting, short excavation, strong support, early closure, and frequent measurement" was adhered to. Construction difficulties such as the shallow overburden at the portal and numerous karst caves inside the tunnel were overcome by adding advance support and strengthening the secondary lining support. During construction, safety management was carried out in strict accordance with the "Nine Provisions on Tunnel Construction Safety," earnestly ensuring "iron rules, rigid enforcement, full coverage, genuine implementation, and tangible results," so as to ensure the rapid progress of the Xincheng No. 1 Tunnel.

The full-bore breakthrough of the Xincheng No. 1 Tunnel has greatly boosted the morale of all project personnel. Next, the project will continue to build on this success, fully summarize construction experience, and make further achievements in maintaining tunnel safety and quality management.
