On April 26, the pavement project of the Jian-Ge-Yuan Expressway undertaken by Southern Company reported another success: the paving of the asphalt lower surface course was completed, achieving an important milestone in pavement construction and marking that the main works have entered the final sprint stage.

The Jianshui (Gejiu) to Yuanyang Expressway project has a total length of 127.665 km and is built to a two-way, four-lane expressway standard, with a subgrade width of 25.5 m and a design speed of 80 km/h. Sinohydro Bureau 4 is mainly responsible for the pavement, building construction, and landscaping works of the 51.127 km Gejiu–Yuanyang section. The project plans a total of 3 cement-stabilized base mixing stations and 2 asphalt mixing stations, with a total output of 846,900 tonnes and a maximum daily asphalt output of 4,800 tonnes.

Since April, the project department has focused closely on the goal of opening to traffic by the end of June, made overall arrangements, reversed the construction schedule, and led frontline workers to brave the scorching sun, work through the night, and battle rainy days, setting off an upsurge of intensive construction. Before construction, traffic control was properly implemented to eliminate and reduce construction interference factors, and safety technical briefings and safety education and training for frontline workers were strengthened to ensure safety is under control. During construction, work was carried out strictly in accordance with the machinery configuration, production mix proportion, loose paving thickness, and rolling passes of the test section, with strict control of construction quality.

Up to now, 96% of the designed total amount of cement-stabilized pavement base for the Jian-Ge-Yuan Expressway has been paved, and 75% of the designed total amount of the upper and middle surface courses has been completed; 75% of the designed total amount of landscaping has been completed; and the main structure of the buildings has been completed, with the project now in the decoration and finishing stage.
