Recently, the construction of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport reached an important milestone — the supporting area project passed completion acceptance smoothly. A representative of China Construction Eighth Engineering Division, the project contractor, stated that this marks the full connectivity of internal and external transportation at Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, with related support services fully transitioning to the operational preparation stage, laying the foundation for official operation before the end of June.

The supporting area project of Chengdu Tianfu International Airport covers the entire airport, excluding the flight area and terminal buildings, including internal and external transportation, support services, environmental protection and landscaping, and other important contents. It is divided into four major work projects: the work area production auxiliary facilities project (referred to as the work area building construction project), the work area municipal engineering project, the power and energy project, and ancillary facilities projects.

The Section IV project of the supporting area, undertaken by the Southwest Company of China Construction Eighth Engineering Division, connects to the airport terminal in the south and the airport access expressway in the north, serving as the throat area for entering the terminal area of Tianfu International Airport. This project is the largest and most comprehensive section project in the supporting area municipal engineering, including roads, bridges, tunnels, utility tunnels, and drainage.

"As an important guarantee for the smooth operation of the airport, from the official commencement in September 2018 to the current completion acceptance, Section IV has taken 963 days and nights," introduced Gong Haizhou, chief engineer of the Chengdu Tianfu International Airport Supporting Municipal Section IV Project.

The project overcame a series of difficulties during construction. Taking the 2.7-kilometer utility tunnel as an example, the project innovated the "rapid and precise installation construction method for utility tunnel sliding grooves," using T-shaped bolts to quickly install and fix the sliding grooves, improving issues such as verticality and flatness of the sliding grooves, once again overcoming a challenge in the municipal industry.
