The world's first international cross-border cableway—the Heihe–Blagoveshchensk cableway across the Heilongjiang (Amur) River—has recently entered the pile foundation construction phase on the Russian side in Blagoveshchensk, while construction has also begun in Heihe, marking substantive progress on the first China-Russia cross-border cableway project. The designed operating speed is 12 meters per second, with a one-way transport capacity of 1,788 people per hour and a designed annual transport capacity of 2.5 million people. Once the project is put into operation, it will eliminate the inconvenience of crossing the border via pontoon bridges in winter, ships in summer, and hovercraft in spring and autumn, shortening a single crossing to less than 10 minutes. It will further accelerate connectivity of transport infrastructure between China and Russia and is of great significance for promoting high-quality Belt and Road cooperation.
