On the same day, the Nantashan Tunnel on the new Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway, constructed by China Railway Major Bridge Engineering Group, was successfully holed through, marking that main-line tunnel construction along the entire route has officially entered the final sprint stage. The Nantashan Tunnel is a key control project within the Fuzhou section of the new Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway, and it is adjacent to the existing Hangzhou-Shenzhen Railway and the Fuzhou Ring Expressway, making construction relatively difficult. The new Fuzhou-Xiamen Railway is China's first cross-sea high-speed railway, with a design speed of 350 kilometers per hour, and is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in 2022.
