On April 1, the Wubei–Jiangjunmiao Railway capacity expansion and renovation project officially began full-scale construction. Once completed, the transport capacity of the Wujiang Railway will be significantly enhanced.

　　The Wujiang Railway capacity expansion and renovation project is an important measure by China Railway Urumqi Group Co., Ltd. to resolutely win the battle for blue skies, further strengthen railway transport capacity, and give full play to the green and environmentally friendly advantages of railway transport.

　　The Wujiang Railway is approximately 257 kilometers long. The line starts from Wubei Station and passes through Midong District of Urumqi City, Ganquanbao Economic and Technological Development Zone, Fukang City, Fukang Industrial Park, Beisantai Circular Economy Industrial Park in Jimsar County, and Zhundong Economic and Technological Development Zone to the Jiangjunmiao mining area of the Zhundong Coalfield. It is a major railway transport corridor mainly serving coal transportation.

　　In the past two years, with the full opening and operation of the Afuzhun Railway and the rapid development of industrial parks along the line, especially the Ganquanbao Industrial Park, the freight volume of the Wujiang Railway has grown substantially, reaching 54.2807 million tons in 2020, a year-on-year increase of 28.3%. The transport capacity of the Wujiang Railway has become increasingly strained, and line renovation is needed to enhance capacity.

　　It is reported that the Wujiang Railway capacity expansion and renovation project has a construction period of two years and involves multiple works. Among them, the 194-kilometer second line from Wubei to Zhundongbei is to be completed and put into operation this year.

　　After the renovation of the Wujiang Railway is completed, railway transportation will be cleaner and more environmentally friendly, and railway transport capacity will be greatly enhanced. This will provide important transport support for building the coal-power and coal-chemical industry chain in Zhundong and is of great significance for promoting industrial development in the northern slope economic belt of the Tianshan Mountains in Xinjiang.
