In an environment themed around peace and development, all provinces and regions across the country are vigorously developing their own economies, growing their enterprises, and improving their transportation infrastructure. Because China's eastern region opened up earlier and developed faster, it has moved ahead more quickly in transportation infrastructure construction. However, as the level of domestic opening-up continues to rise, the momentum of economic development has expanded from the eastern coastal areas to inland provinces, and inland provinces have also seized the spring breeze of reform and opening-up to vigorously develop their own economies and promote the construction of regional infrastructure.
Liaoning Province, known as the “eldest son of the Republic,” was once a traditional old industrial base and, in the early days after the founding of the People's Republic, contributed enormously to China's industrial development and social progress. It can be said that without Liaoning Province, China's industrial development could not have reached today's level. Although Liaoning Province has a superior development location and a solid industrial foundation, the market for traditional old heavy industry is now gradually shrinking, so Liaoning Province urgently needs to open up its development environment and promote regional economic development. To this end, Liaoning Province will focus on building five railways this year.
These five railway lines also include two high-speed rail lines, while the remaining three construction projects involve the reconstruction and renovation of old railway lines. In July this year, the Chaoling High-Speed Railway will complete construction. It is reported that the Chaoling High-Speed Railway officially began construction in 2017; the line is 105 kilometers long and lies entirely within Liaoning Province. It starts from Liaoning Chaoyang Station on the Beijing-Harbin High-Speed Railway, passes through Chaoyang City, Beipiao City, and Jinzhou City, and finally joins Linghai South Station on the Qinhuangdao-Shenyang section of the Beijing-Harbin Railway. In July of the same year, the Shenyang-Baishan High-Speed Railway is expected to begin construction along its entire line.
As an auxiliary corridor in the north-south rapid railway passage of Northeast China, this high-speed route also serves multiple functions such as medium- and long-distance, intercity, and tourism transport. Its designed maximum speed reaches 350 kilometers per hour. One end of the line connects to the Shenyang area and the other to the Changbai Mountain area, and it also fills the gap of Fushun City having no high-speed rail. In addition to the capacity expansion and renovation project for the Fenghuangcheng to Jinshanwan section of the Shenyang-Dandong Railway, the remaining three railway construction projects include the upcoming relocation project for the Taoxian Airport section of the Shenyang-Dandong Railway and the Yingkou area of the Liaoning Pilot Free Trade Zone to Bayuquan port railway.
Among them, the relocation project for the Taoxian Airport section of the Shenyang-Dandong Railway will build a new section about 18.8 kilometers long, construct the new Chenxiangtun Station, and rebuild Wujiatun Station and Sujiatun Station. The feasibility study for the relocation project of the Taoxian Airport section of the Shenyang-Dandong Railway has been approved by the relevant departments, with the aim of starting construction within the year. Meanwhile, the Yingkou area of the Liaoning Pilot Free Trade Zone to Bayuquan port railway is planned with a construction period of two years and is expected to be completed in 2022.
