At 8:08 PM on the 28th, under a full moon, the Tanjun Highway Bridge spanning the Tongshun River in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone was successfully closed, ensuring that Tanjun Highway will be open to traffic before May 1.

At around 8 PM, the reporter saw at the site that the Tanjun Highway Bridge is a continuous girder bridge, and the cantilever form traveler equipment in the middle was pouring the last truckload of concrete to prepare for the bridge closure.

Tang Yongshun, chief engineer of the Smart Eco-City Project of CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd., introduced that the Smart Eco-City PPP construction project is a large urban complex project jointly invested and built by the CCCC consortium and the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone (Hannan District) Government, with a total investment of 2.5 billion yuan. It includes bridges, roads, water supply and drainage, parks, dredging and regulation, and other construction types, with a total of 15 sub-projects.

“Tanjun Highway is one of the 15 projects and the largest single project among them,” Tang Yongshun said. The Tanjun Highway (Zhongshan Lake Road—Tongshun Avenue) road, drainage and bridge project is 3.6 kilometers long, connecting the Huangling area and the Junshan area. It is an important trunk road in the Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone and is of great significance to improving the zone's road traffic network.

Tang Yongshun introduced that the Tanjun Highway Bridge is the key control project of Tanjun Highway, with a total length of 1,779 meters and a width of 33.5 meters, designed as a dual six-lane road. The bridge crosses the Tongshun River and connects Huangling and Junshan. After completion, it will meet the increasing traffic demand in the area, accelerate urbanization in the region, promote regional economic development, facilitate tourism development in the old town of Huangling, and improve the living environment and investment environment.

The reporter saw that there is also a bridge downstream of the Tanjun Highway Bridge, with heavy traffic. Tang Yongshun said: “The one downstream is Huangling Bridge, which belongs to Provincial Highway 101 and is about 200 meters away from the Tanjun Highway Bridge. Because Huangling Bridge has width and weight restrictions and only has two lanes in each direction, large trucks cannot use it. From Huangling to Junshan, large trucks can only detour via Guanlian Lake Bridge, which takes about 30 minutes. After the Tanjun Highway Bridge opens to traffic, large trucks will no longer need to detour and will only need 3 minutes.” Tang Yongshun revealed that the original Huangling Bridge will in the future only carry non-motor vehicles and pedestrians and will be transformed into a landscape bridge.

It is understood that as of now, all 15 sub-projects of the Smart Eco-City in Wuhan Economic & Technological Development Zone undertaken by CCCC Second Harbor Engineering Co., Ltd. have been implemented. Among them, 12 sub-projects have been completed and entered the operation and maintenance period, and the remaining 3 sub-projects are also under intense construction. It is reported that in addition to the Tanjun Highway Bridge closed this time, another sub-project——Chuanjiangchi Park will also be completed soon, creating a “5-minute service circle for urban park green spaces” for surrounding citizens, improving urban living quality, and meeting citizens' needs for a better life.
