On March 24, the right line of the Buji Station–Bushi Ventilation Shaft section of Shenzhen Rail Transit Line 14 was successfully holed through. With this, the shield-driven section (Buji Station–Bushi Ventilation Shaft section) has achieved twin-line breakthrough, the Bushi section (i.e., "Buji Station–Shiyaling Station") has been fully holed through, and this also marks the 29th shield reception on the entire line.

The geological conditions of the section from Buji Station to the Bushi Ventilation Shaft are complex, with hard rock strata extending about 500 m; the rock mass is relatively intact and of high strength, with a maximum compressive strength of up to 160 MPa. The shield machine needs to pass beneath the pile groups of a school teaching building complex and the operating Metro Line 3 and Line 5.

The Bushi section is about 3,231.2 m long, with a tunnel depth of about 20 m to 86.5 m, and the intermediate ventilation shaft is about 50.49 m deep.

During construction of this section, several "firsts" in China and Shenzhen were achieved — the first use in China of a center screw-type earth pressure/TBM dual-mode shield for tunnel boring; the first in China to achieve in-tunnel mode conversion of this type of shield; and the first in Shenzhen to complete pile foundation underpinning for an operating metro viaduct.

Metro Line 14 is the first line in the central-eastern part of Shenzhen's urban express rail network, starting at Gangxia North and ending at Shatian Station, with a total length of about 50.34 km.

It connects Futian District, Luohu District, Longgang District and Pingshan District, and reserves the conditions for extension to Huizhou. It has 18 stations, 1 parking lot, 1 depot and 4 main substations.

Up to now, the entire line has completed 100% of the retaining structure; 99% of earthwork excavation; and 95% of the main structure.

Among them, all 49 shield machines planned for the entire line have completed launching, 29 shield receptions have been completed, and 11 of the 15 stations on the entire line have been capped.

As the main transportation line of Shenzhen's "Eastward Expansion Strategy," Line 14 is expected to be completed and open to traffic in 2022.
