Recently, the Haicang Port-dredging Channel and Lu'ao Road (Maqing Road—Wengjiao Road Section) project has progressed smoothly. Excavation of the key control project, Caijianwei Mountain No. 2 Tunnel, has reached 55%. It is also currently one of the highway tunnels with the largest span and largest cross-section in Asia.

　　The Haicang Port-dredging Channel and Lu'ao Road (Maqing Road—Wengjiao Road Section) project mainly includes the construction of Caijianwei Mountain No. 1 Tunnel, No. 2 Tunnel, Xinqiao Middle Bridge and Lu'ao Road Tunnel. Among them, Caijianwei Mountain No. 2 Tunnel has the longest mileage and the most complex structure in the entire port-dredging channel. The tunnel and Lu'ao Road form an interchange within the Caijianwei Mountain body, with a maximum cross-section of 421 square meters and a span of 30.5 meters, making it one of the highway tunnels with the largest span and largest cross-section in Asia. In December 2020, the A bid section of the tunnel took the lead in completing the excavation of the large cross-section tunnel. Subsequently, the B bid section completed the large cross-section excavation of the left line in January this year. At present, the large cross-section excavation of the right line, which is 520 meters long, is underway.

　　The Haicang Port-dredging Channel and Lu'ao Road (Maqing Road—Wengjiao Road Section) project started construction at the end of 2018 and is planned to achieve full breakthrough of the main tunnel by the end of this year, striving to be completed and opened to traffic before the end of 2022. At present, 55% of the overall engineering volume has been implemented. Among them, Caijianwei Mountain No. 1 Tunnel has been completed, the overall excavation volume of Caijianwei Mountain No. 2 Tunnel has reached 55%, Xinqiao Middle Bridge has entered the construction of the upper structure box girder, and the Lu'ao Road Tunnel has entered the key construction stage of passing under Maqing Road.

　　The Haicang Port-dredging Channel and Lu'ao Road (Maqing Road—Wengjiao Road Section) project connects the Second West Channel Haicang Tunnel with the Xiamen–Chengdu Expressway. It is a major project in Xiamen's implementation of the cross-island development strategy and is also an important part of the city's "two rings and eight radials" expressway network system and the West Coast city link line.
