In November 2020, the flight procedures were approved; on January 27, the test flight was successful; on March 4, it passed the civil aviation construction project industry acceptance and use permit review... The Jiaodong International Airport, which has attracted much public attention, is about to "take off." The new airport will adopt a one-night transfer method. Although the specific transfer time has not yet been announced, observant citizens may notice that projects related to the new airport have set their completion times for June this year. Some of these projects started early, and some are intensifying their 100-day sprint, all to maintain project progress.
Licun Interchange Ramp: Early Start to Compress Schedule
The Qingyin Expressway connects to the new airport expressway link. Previously, the Licang section of the Qingyin Expressway was under significant traffic pressure, often experiencing vehicle queues and congestion. To alleviate the traffic pressure on the Licang section of the Qingyin Expressway as soon as possible and facilitate safe and efficient travel for citizens, the Licun Interchange ramp improvement and upgrading project, originally scheduled to start in early April, officially started on March 20. The original schedule of more than 90 days will be shortened to more than 70 days, with the main structure expected to be completed by mid-June.
As of March 24, the latest progress of the Licun Interchange ramp improvement and upgrading project is as follows: 1,600 cubic meters of site clearance, 600 cubic meters of base replacement with stone ballast, concrete pouring for the widened culvert foundation of Ramp B (circular one-way ramp) completed, rebar binding for the widened culvert foundation of Ramp A (two-way ramp) completed, precast cover slabs for the widened culverts of Ramps A and B completed, accounting for about 5% of the total project volume. The construction site ensures road and construction safety by setting up water barriers, traffic cones, nighttime warning red lights, warning robots, road closure notice boards, and detour signs.
Qingdao Transportation Development Group reminds citizens that the project requires the removal of ramp guardrails during construction, and half-width traffic will pose safety hazards to construction and passing vehicles. Therefore, the ramps from Licun to Qingdao East entrance and from Chengyang to Licun exit will be fully closed for construction. To meet citizens' travel needs during holidays, the closed sections will be open to traffic during holidays (from 0:00 on April 3 to 24:00 on April 5, and from 0:00 on May 1 to 24:00 on May 5). During the construction period, vehicles traveling from Licun to Qingdao East can detour via Shenzhen Road or Heilongjiang Road; vehicles traveling from Chengyang to Licun can exit the expressway at Xiazhuang Toll Station and detour via Heilongjiang Road, or continue along the Qingyin Expressway to Qingdao East Toll Station and detour via Haier Road and Songling Road.
New Airport Expressway Link: 100-Day Sprint to Ensure On-Time Opening
The new airport expressway link is a major traffic artery to the new airport. In mid-March, the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau held a 100-day battle mobilization meeting at the construction site of the Qingdao New Airport Expressway Link (Shuangbu-Xiazhuang Section), requiring that taking this meeting as an opportunity, the project participating units are riding the development trend of the "Project Implementation Year" and striving toward the goal of opening to traffic in June.
The New Airport Expressway Link (Shuangbu-Xiazhuang Section) project is an important part of Qingdao's central urban area "seven horizontal and nine vertical" expressway network system and the east coast urban area "three vertical and five horizontal" expressway network. It is the bay-bottom horizontal traffic hub of Qingdao that "connects east and west, radiates north and south," and is also an extremely important supporting road for Jiaodong International Airport. The project starts from Qingyin Expressway in the east and connects to Qinglan Expressway in the west, with a total length of about 9.8 kilometers. The entire line is mainly elevated, with 3 pairs of ramps implemented simultaneously, and construction conditions reserved for Chongqing Road Interchange and Heilongjiang Road Ramp. After completion, the project will become the most convenient and efficient express channel between the main urban area and Jiaodong International Airport, and will also provide important traffic support for the integrated development of the "Shanghai Cooperation Organization Demonstration Zone" and the "Jiaodong Economic Circle." After 11 months of hard work by relevant departments and all participating units, the main bridge of the New Airport Expressway Link (Shuangbu-Xiazhuang Section) project was completed by the end of December 2020 and has met the conditions for opening to traffic. It has now fully shifted to the construction of ground roads, underground pipelines, and other projects.
At the mobilization meeting, Chen Yong, Party Secretary and Director of the Municipal Housing and Urban-Rural Development Bureau, introduced that the new airport expressway link project has a large investment and strong driving effect. From project initiation to implementation, time is tight, tasks are heavy, and requirements are high. All participating comrades, with the will to win a decisive battle and extraordinary measures, have captured one stronghold after another, broken through many technical difficulties, solved many problems in land acquisition and relocation, and achieved strong progress in project construction. Now the project "flies a bridge connecting east and west," and the main line has been completed on schedule and meets the conditions for opening to traffic. However, the site conditions are still relatively complex, and there are still a large number of tasks that need to be handled well. There is an urgent need to seize every minute to advance and to implement with vigor and determination.
Jiaozhou Bay Bridge Licun River Interchange: Completion Time Advanced to June This Year
As an important supporting project connecting the east and west traffic of the island city, during the Spring Festival, the construction site of the ABF ramp project of the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge Licun River Interchange was bustling. The project is located at the mouth of the Licun River and is a hub interchange where the Jiaozhou Bay Bridge intersects with Huanwan Road. The project content includes civil engineering for ramps A, B, and F, traffic safety facilities engineering, power supply and distribution engineering, electromechanical engineering, lighting engineering, greening engineering, and roadbed engineering connecting ramps A and B, with a total investment of about 156 million yuan. The planned construction period is 18 months, originally scheduled for completion in October this year.
After completion, the project will achieve full interconnection between Huanwan Road and the Cross-Sea Bridge Elevated Road, expected to save 15 minutes compared to detouring via roads under the bridge. It will effectively improve traffic convenience from north and south of Huanwan Road to Laoshan direction and from Laoshan to south of Huanwan Road, improve citizens' travel conditions, alleviate road traffic pressure, and promote regional economic and social development.
To meet the transfer needs of the new airport, the project is planned to be completed and opened to traffic in June this year.
Ensuring Smooth Transfer: Multiple Transportation Modes to Reach the New Airport
The above roads are all important channels for driving to the new airport. All these projects are ensured to be completed in June, with the purpose of ensuring the smooth transfer of Jiaodong International Airport.
The Jiaodong International Airport project is a key project in the national civil aviation "12th Five-Year Plan." Since 2018, with the superposition of multiple national strategies such as the Shanghai Cooperation Organization Demonstration Zone, Qingdao has stood at the forefront of a new round of higher-level opening up in the country. The municipal party committee and government, sizing up the situation, proposed to build Jiaodong International Airport into a "world-class, domestically leading" Northeast Asia international hub airport. Jiaodong International Airport is about 39 kilometers from the center of Qingdao, with a terminal area of 478,000 square meters and an operating grade of 4F. It is committed to building a comprehensive hub integrating aviation, railway, highway, urban rail, and other transportation modes.
After the transfer, citizens can quickly arrive whether by driving, subway, or train. Especially in terms of rail transit, Metro Line 8, which opened last year, takes only 35 minutes from North Railway Station to the new airport. At that time, this metro line will become an important way for citizens to quickly reach the new airport. Citizens can go directly from the subway to the new airport terminal, achieving seamless connection.
