On February 17, the sixth day of the first lunar month, the construction site of the Baisha Yangtze River Bridge in Hejiang County, Luzhou City, Sichuan Province, was bustling with activity. During the seven-day Spring Festival holiday, construction workers kept working continuously in order to race against time on the excavation of the foundation pit for the underwater pile cap of Main Pier 4 and ensure the task of bringing the pier above water before the flood season arrives. Now, on the north bank side of the Yangtze River Bridge, construction of the lower tower column of Main Pier 5 and the construction of the auxiliary pier and approach bridge pier columns have been completed. In addition, the construction of the precast beam yard for the bridge project has also been completed.

It is understood that the Luzhou Hejiang Baisha Yangtze River Bridge involves a total investment of 740 million yuan, has a total length of 1,329 meters and a width of 27.5 meters, and is a cable-stayed bridge with two towers, a single column, and central parallel cable planes, with a main span of 520 meters, currently the world's longest span for a bridge of the same type. After its completion, the three ferries of Hejiang County Bridge, Dingshiyan, and Baisha can be abolished, improving transportation conditions for people along the banks and directly benefiting about 300,000 people. It will effectively connect the north and south banks of the Yangtze River, promote the formation of the comprehensive transportation network system of Sichuan, Chongqing, and Guizhou, and boost the development of the Yangtze River corridor economy.

In addition, the Baisha Yangtze River Bridge is one of the major infrastructure projects determined in the National Plan for the Comprehensive Three-Dimensional Transportation Corridor of the Yangtze River Economic Belt and one of the major livelihood projects at the provincial, municipal, and county levels. It is expected to be completed and opened to traffic in May 2023.
