Wuhan Metro Line 16 has recently reached another construction milestone: the Zhushan Road Station–Chuanjiangchi Station section has achieved twin-tube breakthrough more than half a month ahead of the planned schedule, accelerating progress on the entire line.
The shield-driven tunnel section between Zhushan Road Station and Chuanjiangchi Station (hereinafter referred to as the "Zhuchuan section") has a total length of 1,868.2 meters, making it the longest shield tunnel section on the entire Line 16. The shield machine for this section launched from Zhushan Road Station, passed beneath the Zhushan Road utility tunnel, skirted the Chuanjiangchi bridge piles and passed beneath the Chuanjiangchi open channel before arriving at Chuanjiangchi Station. Its right-line tunnel was the first to break through last week. Six days later, as the cutterhead of the shield machine slowly rotated and broke through the soil, the left-line tunnel also broke through successfully, marking the twin-tube breakthrough of the section.
The project department made advance arrangements for major risk sources in the section, formulated special technical plans and work instructions, and strengthened technical and safety training, laying the foundation for smooth construction. During construction, the shield machine's attitude was adjusted promptly in response to different geological conditions, and strict control was exercised over various tunneling parameters, muck discharge volume and grouting volume, ultimately ensuring that the shield machine achieved a safe, stable and "zero-error" precise breakthrough.
According to Wuhan Metro Group, Wuhan Metro Line 16 is about 33.1 kilometers long and has 12 stations, including 5 elevated stations and 7 underground stations. To date, the main structures of 10 stations have been completed, only 6 shield machines remain tunneling underground simultaneously across the line, and 23 kilometers of track have been laid, with construction progressing steadily.
Wuhan Metro Line 16 is a regional express line, a rapid rail transit line connecting Hannan, Junshan and the central urban area. It runs from Zhoujiahe Station in the south to Guobo Center in the north. The line has two transfer stations: Laoguancun Station, where passengers can transfer to Line 6, and Guobo Center South Station, a three-line interchange with Lines 6 and 12.
