On January 26, with concrete poured down from the delivery pipe, the last roof slab of the main structure of the Phase II cofferdam of the Xiangdong Road Under-Bahe River Tunnel Project—a major supporting project of the Xi'an Olympic Sports Center—was capped, marking that Xi'an's first open-cut municipal road tunnel under the Bahe River achieved main structure breakthrough two months ahead of schedule.

　　Located on the west side of the Xi'an Olympic Sports Center, the Xiangdong Road Under-Bahe River Tunnel Project connecting Bapu Third Road is an important supporting project for the 14th National Games and also Xi'an's first open-cut municipal road tunnel under the Bahe River. The project has a total length of about 1,778 meters, with the tunnel itself about 1,594 meters long. The road has six lanes in both directions, with a design speed of 60 kilometers per hour, and is constructed in two phases with cofferdams alternating sides. Once completed, the project will bring even closer transport links between the International Port Area and surrounding regions.

　　“To ensure that the Xiangdong Road Under-Bahe River Tunnel Project is completed on schedule and to quality standards, since entering the site in October 2019, the entire construction team has overcome a series of difficulties such as a tight schedule and heavy tasks, completing the tunnel's main structure two months ahead of the original plan,” said An Sanqian, project manager of the Xiangdong Road Under-Bahe River Tunnel Project of China Railway Tunnel Group.

　　In addition, because the project runs parallel above and below the shield-driven section of Xi'an Metro Line 14 for 300 meters, to ensure engineering safety the project first adopted pre-reinforcement measures for the interlayer soil. The construction, supervision and design units of both sides established a joint control mechanism and coordinated among multiple parties. Based on the construction and monitoring conditions of both sides, they exercised unified command and finely adjusted the shield tunneling parameters ring by ring to ensure the safety of construction and physical structures. An Sanqian said that the next stage of construction will shift from above ground to underground.

　　Chen Chen, an official of the Transport and Housing Construction Bureau of the Xi'an International Port Area, said that next, the International Port Area will continue to do a good job in overall coordination and services for project construction, provide comprehensive guarantees for project construction, and ensure official opening to traffic on May 1 this year.
